Silly question but:

IF you were a suspension design engineer for toyota, and corporate asked you to make the car "easy to drift", What would you do?

What is the easiest way to artificially make the car oversteer with the limited amount of power it has?

I enjoy writing, and writing about cars is very enjoyable, unfortunately SORC/TEN used to publish four magazines of this genre, which has now been whittled down to one (all within the past year as you may have heard) - which translates into four magazines worth of writers fighting for work from one title, fortunately many of us have day jobs.

What kind of writing did you do in the computer/video game field? That sounds quite interesting to me.

Yeah, the internet is still killing old media. You have to move online, but then you won't make as much if any money, unless you own the site. I still get Automobile Magazine for my waiting room, and sometimes I think of getting Grassroots Motorsports, but print is dying still.

I wrote reviews of PC games, mostly. I also wrote about 3D cards and PC processors for gaming. It was for a now-defunct website. Funding was running out and I got the ax, soon followed by everyone else. That was over a decade ago. I do not miss it, not one bit.

align the car differently, or increase rear sway.

I completely agree, regarding the internet killing print media - and diluting the content. Thanks for sharing about your time writing, sounds like an interesting gig - although it sounds like you have moved onto bigger and better things.

I had hoped to one day get a degree in journalism or English and move over to a more "established" magazine under the same publisher, perhaps Motor Trend or Automobile, but I'm afraid that the whole company may be gone by the time i am ready to apply.

I believe a lot of the long-term auto magazine writers have engineering degrees. Jason Cammisa is definitely my favorite automotive writer right now. He has psych and law degrees. Clarkson is fun, but Cammisa knows his shit in every way and is fun.

Ahhh, makes sense. I have heard of and read some of Jason Cammisa's work and I find it awesome to read. I did not know he had psych and law degrees, that's very impressive!

i find that taking a huge shit is the best mod if you're broke. it's free and helps increase power to weight ratio, and most importantly you feel better too.

Did you really just suggest that similar part numbers and visual appearance in a catalog mean that they aren't different enough to make a difference? The springs look identical between an FRS and BRZ, but they make a difference.

Maybe it's because they use a naming/numbering convention, ie all bump stops start with the same x digits.

Any true carry over parts share part numbers with the original WRX part (brake rotors, etc), not have similar (but new) part numbers.

For someone that claims to be intelligent, you sure make some really stupid logical leaps.

The bump stops don't limit suspension travel though, they're very soft and just progressively raise spring rate before bottoming out. You can squish them pretty far into their range of squishing with just one hand.
