Im considering putting more power in this engine but would like to hear from you guys first.
What have you done to increase this cars performance...
Turbo, super charger, cold air intake, racing chip, exhaust etc etc
What did you get and how has it changed your cars Hp/performance??
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39719

cheapest way to add HP to the car that isnt hard on the engine and easy to install. adding headers and full exhaust and running E85 can help on top of that aswell.

200whp is a nice bump from stock and the tq down low is nice as well plus this system is probably the easiest to maintain.

next i would suggest to lose some weight in the car and maybe a little weight off yourself! ( i have no idea what your weight is but better over all health doesnt hurt!)

I am not sure why I've never felt like this car is lacking of power. To those thinking that the car is lacking power, can you give me the scenario please? (Not torque dip)

Unless you are street racing against someone, I feel that I can go to 60 miles quick enough, I can overtake on highway quick enough. Not sure why there is lack for power from day to day driving....

I think it is adequate. To many of these new guys are into the fast and furious scene. Everyone wants a 10 sec car. Last time I checked, an integra type r was freaking fast in my days. And it was a inline 4 1.8l 190hp high revving monster.

I see what people are saying, it does lack in power. Yeah it has adequate power but who wants that? The car is freakin gorgeous...low, wide and rear wheel drive every so often you want your car to pull as good as it looks.

I'm actually quite pleased with the power the FR-S has. Have I had faster cars? Most certainly, however this car feels fast and really thats half the fun. If I never looked down at the speedometer I'd swear I was going faster than I am.

The ONLY issue I have with the car in terms of power is Torque dip. I plan on getting at least just a header and the tune as that seems to help.

Down the road maybe I'll go FI, however I'd really like to get a reliable N/A motor built around the ~300HP range if it all possible.

i don't want to be that dude that says this... but you need to browse/search forums before you ask questions that have been answered 1000 times...

with that said...

here are your options...
(1) install a t66 turbo with nos and a motec systems exhaust
(2) tune the nos timer, lengthen the injector pulse another millisecond, you'll run 9s
(3) install a cool-air intake, nos fogger system and a t4 turbo. direct port nitrous and AIC controller... and a stand alone fuel management system.

you are welcome

Power costs money.

If you love driving you soon realize that there is such a thing as too much power.

For regular street driving these cars have ample power delivered on a torque curve that demands your attention to get the best out of the car.

The engine begs to rev out to the redline despite all the stick it gets for "not sounding right" or "sounding strained" or whatever. It sounds like a Porsche flat four would sound if Porsche made a flat four, which they are about to though because Porsche customers no longer understand that too much power can ruin a car for real drivers (356 anyone? '65 911 maybe?) so that lovely boxer growl will be muffled by a turbo or two.

These cars are ahead of their time in that you can learn how to really drive in one, then fit better tires and really enjoy maxing it out nearly every time you drive it without getting arrested, and you will never, ever get bored with the way this car drives no matter how good you think you are as a driver. It will always be capable of entertaining you, it is just that good.

No, it is not underpowered, it just needs to be truly thrashed to make it go quickly, how can anyone who really likes driving see that as a fault????

I have to agree with the Phantom ESC people. I have the Phantom ESC,
open flash header and OFT E85 tune combo and you can't beat 225 WHP. But the real improvement is 200 FLbs of torque starting at about 2K RPM flat to redline. And all for less than $3K. For on road drivabilty I think this setup beats the crap out of any supercharger or turbocharger setup at any price.

wow. if i do the math correctly, considering the 86 light weight.. that is equivalent to being as fast or faster than a stock STI for less than $3k

They could have dropped a 2.5L in it for North American clients so there would be more torque and you could keep up with a V6 Camry without straining the engine. Only thing is this isn't a drag racer and fuel economy is a high priority these days.

Once you get the engine going its very good IMHO especially with an OTS tune.

Yes I wish it had a higher low end torque curve that was flat to 5000 RPMs, and yes the one flaw I experience daily is feeling like I'm pushing it to match the quiet take off of a Sienna van. But that's partially due to different gearing. Also, for the BoM set by the manufacturer, they had to prioritize things a bit.

If you prefer quicker off the line acceleration there are other choices in the market for similar money. If you want the best possible driving feel and handling dynamics there is no better choice for the money at this time.

If you want both and are prepared to up the anti, there's the Porsche Boxster for WAY more money or FI and no warranty for the twins for considerably less.
