I believe you guys are missing the whole point here. Regardless of the difference in the springs they are showing that the FRS/BRZ can be driven either way with minimal time loss. The fact that the FRS was slightly faster while oversteering doesn't mean one is better DD or edgier.

these cars are too similar to even pretend to draw any conclusion as to what is faster. you could probably use the same car for two laps and get an equally large time gap. i find it funny that people even care since if you valued objective performance stats at all, this wouldnt be the car for you

Taku Sato is the one of the first students at Nakaya's class and the best ever F1 driver from Japan.
I think Kamui Kobayashi is the best F1 driver fron Japan.

Very nice vids. Was interesting to read the little criticism towards the driver of the BRZ, but some people didn't realize it was the same guy...lol

Not necessarily true - a normal person will cook brakes faster out on track due to poor technique.

Both cars are prepped up to be slightly different in terms of what market they're trying to aim towards. The BRZ appears to be more stable thus less steering input is required. I'm thinking this setup is very good for high speed corners. I still don't like how much understeer seems to be dialed in. This might be for safety reasons?

The GT86 is very fun looking, yet still pumps out a pretty fast time compared to the BRZ. I'm thinking this car is setup more towards the neutral side compared to the BRZ, but requires faster steering input to catch the car while going fast. Either way, I like how both cars perform. With a set of brake pads and fluid, both cars should be a blast to drive. Besides, all cars fade their brakes on the track with OEM equipment. Be smart and get good track pads and DOT4 fluid. Having some good tires like the Dunlop Z1SS, Hankook RS3, Bridgestone RE11, or Advan AD08 would certainly spice up the cornering ability as well as fun factor on track. Heat is going to destroy those Prius tires! Don't forget tire pressures play an integral part on how the car handles as well!

Also, Nakaya is a great driver. Time will tell as to what refinements Toyota and Subaru will make to make this car even faster around Tsukuba. As everybody knows, balance (suspension/tire setup, aero, and lastly, power) is more important at Tsukuba than other tracks.

i remeber from one review a while back that the brz has understeer and the frs has balanced handling and a stiffer ride, subaru is known for a softer ride, might have been dsport mag when they tested 4 models.
i dont know the exact specs though

The car certainly isn't super oversteer happy because the power can be put down. This is a little shocking especially since cars from factories always have a alignment set or suspension setup dialed in for understeer. I personally track a non-staggered tire setup S2000 and right now the car is right in between the BRZ and FRS in terms of how much steering input is required to complete a corner. I'm very curious as to how the suspension will take grippier tires though. How much more is it going to roll? Is that roll going to affect how much grip you can get from the tires? There is a S2000 owner who used OEM suspension and still lapped times faster than 99% of the track guys. Which goes to say, a balanced setup is better than adding parts to the car. I guess what I'm looking for is what is the car's potential direct from the factory without modifying TOO MUCH.

I'd say with grippier tires the FR-S will be significantly faster than the BRZ w/ similar tires around tsukuba, reason being that with grippier tires you can expect the FR-S to be much more stable, while the BRZ will start understeering even more than now. I actually believe the FR-S can take slicks w/ some sway bars, shocks/springs and really make good use of them.

TL: DR FR-S should be a much better track car than the BRZ after tire upgrades, (w/ stock suspension). Sway bars may be necessary to reign the body roll in though on both cars.
