86 (FR-S) vs BRZ real-time comparison on Tsukuba circuit attack by Nakaya
![]() FT86CLUB Homepage Featured Story here it is.... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Te7F-SPV8eg"]*波サー*ットアタックby*谷明彦 86/BRZ比較 - YouTube[/ame] I'll follow up with this when I get "Car Top". It will be pulished in Japan on April 26th w/ more details, I guess, including some impressions from the driver, Nakaya. Also, just as another reference, you can see a time atack review w/ the 86 on the same circuit, Tsukuba, in the latest "Hot-Version", vol 115. http://www.hot-version.jp/main/digest.php?si=1115 -pr video [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4yKqPmTZlk"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4yKqPmTZlk[/ame] I don't know who drove the 86 (and its spec) and what the record is..... --- update: I didn't watch the video of Hot Version 115 yet, but found some blog review on it. According to it, Tsuchiya drove the new 86 and got the record of 1'11"394 with a bit disappointment and some excuses. The spec is not written there, but seems the standard settings. Source: http://minkara.carview.co.jp/userid/...blog/26128242/ including some snapshots of the Hot Version video. --- just quick update at 1:22am EDT on April 18th here is another one. these were shot in the Sodegaura circuit. didn't check the details yet, but looks the same feeling I've got. [u2b]TWFlavDfyjU[/u2b] --- update: Some updates w/ "behind the scene" of these videos are posted on YouTube. This was an awesome video! Was it just me or did the FRS seem to handle the turns a little more aggressively, or was it the driver? He seemed more spirited in the FRS then the BRZ.

Yes, 86 is oversteering more. but getting to the last conner, 86 got 0.5 faster at least as checking his shit down on each because it seems the aproaching and the top speed on the straight is also faster. |

This is really fascinating. It seems to me that if you want an edgier, tail-happy car, buy the Toyota/Scion. But if you want a more stable/understeering car, buy the BRZ.
Here are the videos by themselves (full screen): 86: BRZ: |

Way more inputs during the 86 lap, than the BRZ.
Neat video.

Also, it looks this comparison will be detailed in the next issue of the magazine "Car Top" to be published in Japan on Apr 26th. I'll get one asap.

I notice a couple times that he does jerk the wheel over a little more aggressively but when you watch the full screen versions, he also does that with the BRZ once or twice and you can see that once it loses grip, it understeers while when the 86 looses grip, it oversteers pretty quickly. So basically, he's giving more inputs on the 86 because he needs to compensate for the oversteering behavior of the car.

It's all down to the suspension tuning I'm sure. They've already said that the 86/FR-S has softer front springs and stiffer dampers.

It definitely made the BRZ seem much more composed on the track. The driver seemed much more relaxed in that video. In the 86, he seemed to have to keep on edge. It's interesting how the suspension tuning seems to make for two really different driving experiences with all other things (more or less) equal. I'd really like to hear more of the drivers impressions of each car following these laps. It also makes me wonder which one would be better on an autocross course. It might be nice to be able to make the rear end come around with the 86 rather than having the car try to understeer through a tight corner.
