Thanks for this. My last car got totaled because of a guy who rear ended me at a red light. My husband was driving and he did what he could to lessen the impact, but there was no avoiding this guy at all. That said, I'm surprised at myself that I hadn't considered leaving it in gear..

I alternate between the two depending on how tired i am, but I think I'll start doing what you do...

Neutral cause I'm lazy. If someone hits me from behind, hey, I have insurance.

On a bike I keep it in gear until someone is behind me.

Neutral. Saves my knee and leg and there's no chance I'll accidentally pop the clutch, jump into the intersection and get t-boned.
