At stop lights, do you stay in gear or go into neutral?

I keep my clutch pressed and leave it in first (or second depending) when I am at stop lights, even the ridiculous ones. Am I the only one?

Depends on the length of the stop...'that's what she said'

I usually take it out of gear for a longer light, but put it in gear before the light turns green. Need to pull away before everyone else ;)

zuldajin 03-25-2013 09:51 PM

neutral

This is something that I learned from riding motorcycles so I do the same with my cars.

I leave it in 1st with the clutch in if there is no one behind me. That way, if I think someone is coming up too fast and is about to hit me I can try to get out of the way. If there are a few cars behind me at a complete stop and I know the light is a long one, then I will put it in neutral.

Same. I'm too afraid someone hitting me from the back.

lol, me too! Except the last two of my cars have been Mustang Cobras. On those they TOB actually DOES go out if you stay on the clutch too much! Now it's just habit I guess

I try to put it in neutral at every stop. I feel it's better for the clutch.

That's one reason actually. I lurch forward on a regular occasion when someone approaches.

Both have different results. If you're using Tapatalk there's a "Latest>Participated" category. Of course you can go to favorites, but when mobile, this very convenient.

Carry on...

Sorry, didn't realize these, been here a couple months, but I'm still getting used to/figuring out the features. (Especially on the phone) Thanks for the heads up though.

First.

I believe it is technically illegal to not be in gear on the road.

Also for reasons already mentioned
