I can respect that, it's a trade off between two evils but I'd rather take ethanol, which isn't proven to harm the system vs. Knock, which is blatantly bad.

I ran Shell 91 exclusively from June 2013 to June 2014 and I had crickets basically the entire time. Not sure how all the others claim to have no crickets. IIRC it's a May 2013 build date.
I'm now doing 1 year on Petro94 exclusively. I can say for certain that that the crickets are RIDICULOUSLY worse. But I know for sure that I had them before. |

I'm on aftermarket now but even on stock back in the day, you can hear the tip-in known happen under high load between 2-3K RPM. The stock tune isn't optimized for 91, it's 'safe' because your IAM will drop to adjust timing for the lower octane to counter the knock as best as it can.

They're likely never going to eliminate the crickets, I believe they've revised the fuel pump as many times as they are willing to. Just read another thread where user brought car in for updated pump, crickets came back, dealership called tech rep from Subaru and official position from Subaru is now that the noise is normal and there is no further fix.

So how many people have gone aftermarket to fix the crickets, and to get more fuel flow for potential upgrades further down the line?
My dealership has a new pump on hand for me but I don't want to leave my car there for a whole day just to have the same problem again, or potentially worse, since my crickets are irregular and are not always present. |
