That list to me, looks more like an ordered list of which brands get you the most forum rep points.
If you don't know what you want to look for in something, you're not going to gain anything in asking other people that don't know either. All you will get is opinions, and recycled "knowledge" that "I read somewhere.." There are two types of vendors. Those that just buy at wholesale rates, and resell. And those that actually have the knowledge to help you. Most of the time, they will do this free of charge, as they recoup their time through a product sale. My advice would be to consult with a vendor that has the knowledge to help you make such a decision, rather than this method. Consultation is such an under-utilised method in the automotive field. People are too quick to just "google it". You don't have to feel like your pride is in jeopardy. You have a problem, and don't have the ability to solve the problem. So directly seek out someone that can help you. If I have a medical problem, I don't ask on a forum, I don't ask my friends, and I certainly don't google it (because I'll probably self diagnose that I have aids) I go and see a doctor. I cannot urge this point enough. But as I alluded to above, their knowledge is their business. If you're going to seek their advice, don't expect it for free. Don't get their advice, and go buy the product they recommended somewhere else over $50. You'll burn your "avenues for actual knowledge" acting in that manner. The first vendor that replied could certainly help you in this regard. Or, ignore what I've said and just get what someone else has reviewed to be "awesome" without have any knowledge, data, or 1st hand comparisons to substantiate their claims. The only thing you can assert from most reviews from an end user is they either like of dislike the product compared to the setup that had prior. Which more often that not was stock. And is also clouded by the subconscious need to self-justify their purchase. |

This made me laugh. I tend to agree though.

defining the situation 99% of the time will aid you in discerning whether or not the vendor or website is a business trying to make a buck, or there to genuinely help you, regardless if you buy their product or not.
