Digging up this old thread. Are anyone using the WRX (non sti/bremo) on track?
Do they have better resistance to heat that the stock callipers?

They shift bias to the rear from memory. They give more feel some people believe. I just think thats a placebo effect personally. Heatwise they would be minimally different. Not really worth the money. In my opinion you get good pads and fluid, then do a ducting system if needed. If you are exceeding that then you need to look at technique or get a real BBK like the AP setup.

Thanks @Northwest86
I have a track locally (Zolder Circuit) that is quite brake heavy. Lot's braking from 110 mph down to 50-60 and minimal time to cool before the next corner. I have pads, ss brake lines, Castrol fluid, and Porsche brake cooling. The way it is now, the brakes gets mushy after 2-3 fast laps. They don't really fade, there is still lots of braking effect, but the pedal gets a spongy feel. Also my discs are looking burned around the edge. Where there was rust, there is now golden/grey deposits. My though was to get some high quality discs (2 piece rotors, stock size). But I am worried if it will move the problem to the callipers? And was considering if these might help if that's the case. Probably I am better off going straight to BBK?

Two piece rotors in stock size will be worse regarding endurance/cooling... Same amount of heat to dissipate in less material. They'll be lighter, though.

Those pads are good for about 650C. Stuff like Project Mu HC800s are good for 800 and club racers are similar. So that could help. We have some fairly major braking circuits (5-6 moderate braking points and one large one.) They run fine for us so far. I'm not sure on how the porsche cooling setup is. I assume its a duct into the centre of the rotor? If so maybe a different pad will work better. When some pads get into certain temp ranges they change feel. If a different pad doesn't work then a BBK may be needed. Also look if there is any technique that can be improved. The pedal dance in my experience can reduce temps with less brake pulsing and avoiding ABS at all costs is crucial or they can cook quickly.
What are your rotor temps? Thats usually the best indicator of if you are over the threshold. The DBA rotors have temp paint that changes colour if its exposed to a high enough heat for a period of time. My fronts for example set off the highest marker which is at 660C from memory. I changed brake pads and I've never been that high again. Getting some temp paint meant for brakes and putting it on the outside of the rotor may help see whats happening and if you need a bbk. |

They look like this and cost a fortune, 576€ for a pair. They are available as a one piece as well and 200€ less. Would the only benefit be the weight savings (and even with the cost of less heat resistance)?

Thanks for your help and advice, it's much appreciated. Regarding the WRX callipers: I have the chance to get my hands on some that was only used for 300 miles at the moment (the previous owner ditched them as he had troubles bleeding them). Would a slight increased rear balance be a negative thing? Or could that actually be a benefit?

With stock callipers, you're better off with good OEM replacement (Centric for instance) and extra cooling (this recently popped up http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105825 ).
