I was planning on doing this evaluation on my own with summer gas. Are you using Torque (or similar) or OFT? |

What is IAM? o.o intake air manifold?
I've been getting my gas from Major Mac and Jane. That's when I notice the crickets. I guess I'll change stations for a while. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

Gotta remember that the car was tuned on 93 octane from factory. When they say it will run 'fine' on 91 - likely means that ECU is smart in compensating by dropping IAM but you're leaving quite a bit of performance on the table when it dips as low as .5

IAM = Ignition Advance Multiplier. Value goes from 0-1. If you have IAM as 1, that means you get full timing as called for by the tune. IAM of 0.5 means you get half. IAM lowers when ecu detects 'knock' (premature detonation) to compensate for lower quality fuel than expected by the tune. If you're not at 1, you're leaving quite a bit of performance on the table that you could have with higher octane. Hope this helps.

But I don't want to run ethanol into the fuel system. Are you guys strictly pumping off the dedicated V-Power pump and not the mix one?
I can only hear crickets on idle after a drive (at the light or when I'm parked). No crickets on startup since it's running only on port injection. Other direct injection cars have this sound so I'm used to it, albeit not as loud (my old car had a Hitachi HPFP and direct injection, could only hear it with the hood opened). Who makes ours Denso? |

I run Shell V Power on my cars and have so since my first vehicle. I have crickets and do not change. If you think about it's actually quite funny.

What I try to do is line up behind a BMW/Audi/MB (since there are so many of them) since I know 99% of the time they are filling up on 91 |

The pumps at shell , especially the new ones are designed to dry out the hose after every fill, the only residue maybe on the tip .. My uncle owns a few shells I have seen the engineering drawings

I fill up at the same Shell every time, and obviously V-Power from a mix-pump (no dedicated V-powers around my area). Chirps are intermittent, but especially noticeable after the car has warmed up, and only when the car is stopped at idle engine speed. Can *barely* hear them with the windows up.

I think using the mix pump could be the culprit. Last edited by krayzie; 05-29-2014 at 06:09 PM. |
