I do enjoy the MPG savings with the Primacy tires. I will probably run a different Primacy when these are done for DD duty.

I do have a set of track wheels and tires for when I need them.

If you do things for a purpose, there shouldn't be a regret.

You are basically asking if anyone regrets dumping this:

Stock tires are great for learning, which many of the people on this forum need. As do i.

In a sense, if you get consistent times on stock tire, then time for a upgrade. If you're still learning, then stay with stock until you're consistent. I've been looking at Auto x times locally, there's members with stock tires doing better time then those running those RE-11A's or PSS.

Don't follow the forums, upgrade at your own pace for your own advantage.

One more thing, you get pick up stock tires for dirt cheap. I've picked up two sets with very little wear for around $200. But do be cautious of these tires feathering, they love to do that.

all the talk about the lack of trust in the stock tire is unwarranted. if you feel out of control with the stock tires, its not the tires. its your driving. changing to another reasonable street tire isnt going to change the characteristics of handling but just where they happen. in my experience they are a relatively predictable tire that is really communicative.

would have to agree with this , stock tires aren't all that bad. From my track experience with the car thus far feels great just needs more finesse with stock tires. But again all down to driver input

The stock tires are always saying, "Running out of grip! Running out of grip!" at least on the rear of the FR-S. The MPSS don't say that at all. Fun! But aggravating. After I wear out a set of tires, I might try some off brand cheapo just to see how it is.

I also agree with you both.

I ran all last season's local Auto-X on Hankook RS3s 225/45/17. Grippy but they hid a lot of my bad driving. It felt good but I wasn't learning as much as I should.

I just went to this season's first event. I was lazy and left my stock Michelin Primacy tires on for this event. Although the car was slower/less grip, it wasn't a tail happy drift machine either. It was very predictable and controllable. I had my air pressure up to 40PSI all around and the corner block wear was running true with the guide marks. IMHO the stock tires only lose grip when you aren't giving smooth inputs to the car. It sounds obvious but it isn't to most people. Not once was the car drifting with the tires ablaze rounding a corner. Sure they protested a little, but nothing that I couldn't correct and keep on line. Some car control education goes a long way. Its very eye opening to drive the stock tires on the limit in a safe environment.

This. Did a perfect drift the other day in a non crowded area, halfway through saw a cop that proceeded to pull me over. Gave me a hard time but ended up letting me go. His partner was bitching about me doing "fast and furious" shit, because I wanted to "honor Paul walker" since he died a few miles from me. Didn't really care, just was happy I wasn't getting a ticket. Drifting is fun, but grip is more important imo

Hell no I don't regret it. I'm running 265/35-18 Falken Azenis RT615K (square), and I wouldn't have it any other way. The extra grip has saved me countless times, and now I can drive however I like without any worries. Sure, sometimes I like to break loose, and that's when my clutch comes in handy the most

I will admit, I did break my left side axle once. With stock tires.

Stickier tires cost a lot more though, and they also wear much quicker. I'd be lucky to get 3k miles out of a set of my tires, I usually only manage around 2.5k. Try to find a middle ground where the benefit will still outweigh the cost.
