Oil Analysis - 1st oil change

EDIT: The dealer "thinks" it's valvoline. That's encouraging

they should have bottles of Subaru 0w20 on the shelf and it says idemitsu so not sure where they'd come up with valvoline. If you're paying $77 they should be using the actual Subie oil, the correct oil filter and a new crush washer, double check before giving them your car.

I plan to mark them so I can see what does and does not get swapped out. The filter should be a no brainer but the plug and crush washer I could see going back on.

I meant they'll replace the filter but it could be the wrong one. I guess it's not a big deal you could point it out after but I would go in with the part number and make sure that's what they have in stock and what they'll be putting on.

a few dealers didn't know which filter was for the BRZ at first so they were selling forester filters, i think they're smaller or something. A few even handed out the older blue filters for the wrx.

Probably personal preference. After the 1k mile break in a lot of people change their oil. I won't speak for him, but I'm going to guess its a combination of that, his autocross run, and ultimately time.

FWIW, I'm at about 3400 miles and haven't change the oil yet.

Just seems early considering how good the initial fill oil is.

That's why. I'll probably change it again around 5000 and then stick with a 5000 mile cycle going forward.

I'm also a worry wart and a statistics geek, so I really just wanted to know how it was going and get a baseline of data.

And unless you changed it to Mazda High Moly 0W-20 or a race oil, you won't be getting an oil with as robust in moly as the factory fill

I agree that the factory fill is good stuff and there's no reason to dump it early, especially if you're not changing it to one with a similar additive pack.

So here are my results from the third oil change of the car.

Oil history
-------------
Factory oil
Dealer oil
Motul v300 0w20  <-- Oil that this UOA is reporting on.
Motul v300 0w20  <-- Oil in the car now.

There are around 40-50 autocross runs and a track day along with daily driving on this oil.

whiteradam - With your driving conditions, I would be getting a TBN as well to make sure that the oil is holding up for your interval. Some of this (like the silicon) could still be residual break-in wear.

Insolubles are amazing. What oil filter are you running?
