Awful scratch + paint flaking off!
I don't know how this happened, but I ended up with a nasty scratch on the passenger side skirt (I think maybe I had scraped against a pile of ice or got hit by a runaway shopping cart) This winter was not kind to my brz
![]() In any case, the scratch is so deep that the paint has actually started flaking off completely. It has actually gotten worse since I took this pic with more pieces flaking off. Its like 6-8 inches long and there is a ton of loose paint - you can see in the pic the scratch runs along the entire length of the pic. I am afraid if I just try to paint over it will continue flaking off. It is also beginning to rust. I need some way to fix it or I'll be looking at a rusted out side skirt in months. ![]() thumb for scale ignore the other little dots those are just dirt.

Unfortunatly the location you have sucks big time. On the ede so your going to be getting into the door jamb area and on the rocker... meaning the qtr pannel will need clear coat too unless your spot painting.
If the paint has begun flaking and as large of an ammount as you have stated, then you are beyond the average touch up phase. You will likely need to get it to a bodyshop and have it properally taken care of before it spreads. Any proper show will start by sanding the area of the flaking paint, feathering the edge and working as far OUTWARD from the chip as needed. This can be tricky to fix as you have no idea how far back the paint will go before it stops peeling. (Though a power washer will let you know fairly quickly :P) Based on the location aznd the color they should be able to easily hide the blend within the pannel and not need to blend the color into the door/front fender. BEing so low even if it is a slight mismatch one wouldn't know unless under the car, looking up. If they were to paint over the flaking/peeling paint it would be a complete waste as painting over, paint with low surface tension will result in the new paint flaking. |

Wetsand as stated, PRIME THE SURFACE, and then do your touchup, that should prevent rusting.
You will need to bring it to a shop and have them blend into a quarter panel. |

I was already faced this type of situation with my old car. So when I bought my new car I am already planned something useful for my new car. I was coated my car with surface protection tape at that time to keep protect my car against scratches, paint flaking and other damages in future.
