Essentially, the differential between lighted and unlighted is so great that you don't have night vision. Light a match or ignite a lighter in the dark (after your pupils have dilated) and stare at the lighter: you'll see that while the lighter is bright, the area surrounding it is MUCH darker than it was without the light.
This is true. I'm personally fine with that though.

Btw Longhorn, what would it take to go from the D4S 42V to a D2S 85V? Need a new HID ballast?
You'd need a different ballast, and then you're getting into retrofit territory

That is what I figured, thanks for confirming guys. Might as well just stick with the D4S and swap out the bulbs when needed.

That's probably your best option. IMO it's not worth the hassle and money to do that kind of retrofitting on a car that already has HID headlights.

Unless they suck There are some horrible OEM HID setups out there. Here's to hoping we won't have one of those

I can only hope we get something along the lines of a S2000/TSX setups. But I am doubtful.

From what I saw in the highway video of the red BRZ at night it looks promising. It was somewhat hard to tell though since they were also running with the fog lights on which hides a lot of the pattern.

Wow, this thread is like dejavu from '05 - '06 on the G35 forum. That thread was probably like 100 times longer than this and some serious experts came on to contribute.

Unless you're really bent on color of the discharged light, stick with 4300k. If you're dead bent on a warmer color, then go no further than 6000k. Or you might as well have saved your money and bought the FRS without the HID's.

I believe that halogen projectors are different from xenon projectors.
