I really think you need to re-evaluate your definition of "cold" as it applies to cars.

Question: How much does it really take to fill the trans?
I see conflicting numbers online & in the manual.

Just went out to get me some Motul 300 today. Looking to change the fluid this weekend. I'm at 24000kms on the original fill. I feel kind of bad that I'm only getting around to it now. But the car sees only highway use and I haven't taken it lapping yet so all should be good.

Gonna run Redline 75w90 in the diff. I wanted to do all Motul but the shop only had two bottles of Motul left so I just grabbed a bottle of Redline for the rear.

Not as cold as where you are...but cold weather being 60F below which is mild to you...but having to wait for over 5 minutes to warm up the car and then drive another 15 to 30 minutes to have the tranny drive right is not correct for me. I suspect that the wrong oil was chosen by Subaru and so a lot of people have to deal with it. Pentosin has a 40C viscosity of 38.3...where as MTL has 54.1. A lot of metal to metal action happens because the oil doesn't get thin enough until temps are reached. I don't know what the viscosity for the stock tranny is.

How so? I know the oem is a lowly torsen... but, for better or for worse? Engages differently (earlier or later?), or mis-engagement.. or better more solid positive stronger more frequent/consistent engagement?

I assume drifters would feel the difference much more than a grip racer/track head.

It sounds like you have a problem with your tranny.

I have had it below zero, and I begin driving within a minute of starting the car.
The tranny is a bit stiff at first, but it is back to normal within a few miles of driving.

And I believe I have the stock trans fluid at 16k miles.

Quickie Q:

How many quarts/liters to flush the trans? ..and diff?

And, also would like to know the frequency/time between flushes? ..recommended frequency for both a DD car, and also an occasional track car? (I am guessing it isn't as frequent as brake fluid flushes)

Want to go Motul

Manual trans is 2.3 qt, and rear end is 1.2 qt.

I've experimented a bit with fluids, and now that I've found what I like, I will be changing them once a year in the spring. My car is a daily driver that sees little to no track time. I'm using Pentosin in the transmission and Redline 75W85 GL-5 gear oil in the differential. If you plan on track time, you may want something a little more robust in there.

Hey guys, are the tranny fluids (redline, motul) something you can get at your local auto parts store?

Pretty much all of the track guys both casual/weekend warrior and serious track cars are using Motul Gear 300 and 300v for the oil.

300v in The motor is a race oil. It is NOT meant to stay in the car more than a weekend. So if you street drive your car DO NOT use this engine oil.

We had a long conversation at PRI (Motorsports industry show) this year with Motul and they have us all the explainations of their fluids etc.

This is insanely important, and I feel like many people are clueless about it.

They think that, oh, this race team uses it, or this is meant for race cars so this must be great for my daily driver! When in reality it is frequently more important to make an extra few horse power, or be a little bit faster in a "race car" because long term durability/reliability is not as important. And that's what most people misunderstand.

But oh well, becauseracecar, right lol?

Is 300 trans fluid alright for DD and has the same longevity as standard/normal trans fluid?

When I was at Napa Auto Parts I bought some AMSOIL Gear Oil for my transmission. Paid about $13.00/qt and seems to be running great with my build.
