Use a stylus if you're not going to use the dock.

I'm on my phone so if I make mistakes, blame Sportsguy83

FWIW, the OFT takes about 3-5 minutes to flash. And it's likely an ARM processor with a tiny bit of ram.

So wtf speeds writing roms up to 1-2 minutes?

It has to be the usb chipset drivers. Nothing else makes sense given the info we have.

As suspected an FTDI IC was in the cable, so its definitely some sort of USB to Serial conversion I believe

Found specs on the IC

Transfer Data rate to 1M Byte / Sec - D2XX Drivers
• Transfer Data rate to 300 Kilobyte / Sec - VCP
Drivers

Seems like you get a slower transfer rate with virtual com port (VCP), and higher with a more direct method with their own D2XX drivers

Not sure which ecutek uses, or if virtualization/hardware factors determine which drivers are used

Also not sure if this helps lol

Another thing, I'm fairly confident that if the USB cable ever DID get damaged, it would be very easy to replace it with a soldering iron. The USB cable is actually fitted with a 4 pin connector that plugs into the control board in the green plastic casing of the ecutek cable. It would be trivial to cut the connector off the bad cable and solder it onto a doner USB cable.

it definitely seems as though logging speed is improved with the t100 over parallels, though it doesn't scale linearly with the flashing speed. flashing is ~3x faster, where logging speed seems to be increased by about 30-40% (it's hard to tell, really given all the variables involved).

On devices that use the micro USB cables, the cables usually contain a FTDI chip.
These chips convert USB interfaces to RS232 protocol signals and often perform voltage level shifting to/from 3.3V/5.0V.
On these devices that require the USB to FTDI converter chip the transfer speeds will be much slower than USB is capable of.
The FTDI chips at typically limited to 1-3 MBPS.

So switching from USB 2.0 to USB 3.0 should make no difference.
If you do see a difference, it probably means that there was some sort of USB driver issue before switching from 2.0 to 3.0.

My 90 second flashing time is over the micro USB port though. So, it doesn't seem throttled by that port.

I'm on my phone so if I make mistakes, blame Sportsguy83

Even on USB 1.1 the file could be transferred in ~8 seconds.

@Sportsguy83 Probably a bit late since you have replaced your mac but did you get the latest bootcamp drivers from Apple?
I know I've had a world of pain getting my Macbook Air (2011) running Windows 8.1 via Bootcamp to work at all. Had to run the ProECU app before plugging the cable in or it would crash. Quite often I would get an error enumerating vehicle. This is not confidence inspiring when flashing.
I've just rebuilt it with a fresh install of Windows 8.1 and Bootcamp drivers last night so hoping it fixes any driver issues. Otherwise I'll be joining some of you and purchasing a new device. (I like the look of the Sony Vaio duo and flips)

I did not try to get the latest drivers. I set up bootcamp like two months ago and got whatever drivers where the latest at that moment.
