Just tried it at a different port and it was a tad slower. Hitting almost perfectly 4 minutes.

I actually caved and bought the local Dell revue because it was cheap. If it doesn't take me to the 1 and a half minute mark, I'll sell it and keep looking.

Timed flash was right about 1:30 on a asus t100 through its USB 2.0 port

I'm on my phone so if I make mistakes, blame Sportsguy83

And, I'm willing to be the usb 3.0 is a different chipset from the usb 2.0 on the laptop @Calum is using.

Yup, i'm gonna keep beating that dead horse

@Sportsguy83 , did you try all your usb ports? Just thinking it could also be a resource sharing issue depending which "hub" the port is connected too.
I agree, it likely has more to do with the usb controller than anything else.

Is there any variation in logging speed, and if so does it correlate to the flash speed?

do you use usb extension cables when logging/flashing. Is it worth trying with no extension or at least shorter extension in case its introducing errors/re-transmit or possibly causing USB port to shift to lower transfer rate or voltage drop ( ecutek cable have electronics at OBD end ?? only ever seen pictures.).

Encountered plenty of problems with 3G data modems low data transfer rates when used on 3m usb extensions especially crap quality ones

How about plugging in a USB mem stick on the usb port and transfer ROM file to it , probably go in a couple of seconds will kind of prove Computer/processor/usb/disk is not the bottleneck.

maybe ecuteck software doesn't play well with some chipsets ??

Broke down and bought the Asus t100. It seems like it will do the job well.

That, the Dell, and the Lenovo are all very good choices for the job. I chose the T100 because I also wanted a basic laptop for my own personal use. I've been free to use my work laptop for that, but it has low battery life when the radios are on, it's big, and gets hot, and is generally uncomfortable to use as a laptop qua laptop (as in, on my lap on the couch). It's great as a work laptop, though. That is, as an easily portable desktop replacement unit.

Since I don't game on the PC anymore, and didn't need heavy processing power in addition to what I already had, the capabilities of a tablet PC were right on the money for my needs. Thus why I chose the T100, b/c of its included, hard docking keyboard.

But if you're going to go for a PC tablet whose sole use is logging and flashing with Ecutek, then you're fine with the Lenovo Miix 2 or the Dell Venue tablets, especially since there looks to be a new Dell coming out soon with more processor capability, etc.

I do have to say that I'm less satisfied with Windows 8.x as an overall OS than I was with 7 (hard act to follow, as was XP, and 7 was a fine successor to it). But, on the whole, it works fairly well.

Since I grew up on Mac OS well before OSX, I'll make comparisons to that. If XP was like Mac OS 7.5.x - 7.6.x, then Win 7 is like 8.5 & 8.6, and Win 8.x is like OS 8.0 & 8.1, this is with respect to utility and stability. OS 8.x also ushered in a bit of a revamped GUI environment, much like the changes Win 7 brought after XP (we'll just forget Vista).

So, 8.x has much improvement to be done, but it seems to not have the curse that the direct successors to 2k and XP had (which were ME & Vista respectively), that is, being utter garbage.

Has anyone ever taken the time to monitor CPU usage, memory utilization and disk access during a flash?
Windows 7 and 8 have a pretty detailed view and there are probably utilities out there that can monitor far more.

Im actually looking for virtual usb software, we use it at work to have virtual dongles on multiple computers over a network, it would be nice to only require the cable and not the dongle on a device with only a single usb port...

My end goal is to install the dongle/cables/hub out of sight so I just plug in the single usb connection to the tablet. Maybe have the connector hidden in the center console or something.

Tomorrow I'm going to try flashing (that's what she said) through the USB 3.0 port and see if that speeds up the time any.

As expected flashing with the t100 is crazy fast. I used it for an actual tune revision for the first time which was less frustrating than I expected. Hitting touch targets isn't an issue with the keyboard dock, though I couldn't imagine doing it without one. The trackpad is pretty maddening, but I'm used to apple's glass awesomeness so all other trackpads piss me off generally. All of the issues I had were operating system related, with the thing going to the 'metro' start screen thing unintentionally a half dozen times or so inexplicably. I imagine I'll get used to it and figure out what I need to turn off to keep that from happening.

All together it's a perfectly useable way to tune a car, beyond just logging.
