Otherwise, why would any of these vendors sell a stage 1 base kit? I assume these vendors understand that someone buying a stage 1 base kit is likely keeping majority of the car stock while looking to increase whp by 75-100 right?

If there was a unique situation where there was defective piston heads and rods, wouldn't the car show problems in its NA form before hitting FI, or will FI reveal weaknesses by itself where NA can't? (hopefully that made sense lol)
@civicdrivr

Oh, yep made sense. Usually from what I've read defective interals would show on a dyno while still NA and stock, that's why, before I go FI I'm going to dyno my car, and have the pistons inspected.
I'll just put that here:

Nothing can be thrown out the window and nothing is 100% safe. Specially since this car is on its second year, there is always a chance for things to go unexpectedly wrong. When the motor is 7-10 years old, then you can assume "X amount of power will not break it tried and proven X amount of times".

S/C is also a really good option. JRSC or Kraftworks would be my choice on that department and would be really close to my $6475 (I think).

Well, we spoke with our dollars. We have the Jackson Racing supercharger in CARB trim on our car, and an oil cooler. No other supporting mods or powertrain mods. We will be expanding our power in the future though.

Upcoming mods:

- Radiator upgrade (testing)
- Fan upgrade
- Cat delete (oem piping)
- Aftermarket headers and front pipe
- Retune
- Alternative tuning solutions

Keep an eye on our build thread for updates.

My theory is the liner dropped, he had coolant going into the piston bore, which caused the rod fatigue...while not showing any apparent knock/det. While a liner dropping is rare, it's not unheard of in the Subaru world.

Has subaru always had this problem? Or are they just as common on other engines as much as subaru's?

I recall discussion on the built-motor section of NASIOC. Worth talking to the more popular builders of WRX/STI engine to see how common it is. Of course, I have no education/experience in building engines, so I'm just speculating.

I'll check on that. Is it still too early to see if this engine will have...the gasket problem?

Nobody said you can see the cat on the header side.

Any of the kits and no supporting mods will work fine. I am a huge E85 whore so I would recommend upgrading the fuel system and going E85 if you are able to. I was leaning towards doing a supercharger on my new build but if I am going to do that I would prefer an OEM block as it will get me what I want, otherwise I am going to need to spin the supercharger more and more just to get the same power I had and then I will get even lower MPG. And I would like to make a little more power since I have invested so much into my engine at this point. Not that MPG is a huge deal but I don't want to see 10-15MPG, its annoying as hell filling up every other day

Far too early, but a variant of this engine has been out since MY2012 on the Impreza platform. You could check the word on those engines to see if they have the headgasket issue - what I will say is that most recent turbo EJ engines haven't had outright failures like the 90s NA engines...but they still leak a bit (first-hand knowledge, saw a new STI with ~3K miles on a lift).
