I thought it odd myself...been reading and learning here and never heard of the prob. The tech said he "had seen a few failures" with these types of bearings. Now I'm curious and want to ask....

"These types of bearings" is about as vague as it gets. Cartridge style bearings are very common, but without reference to which make/model it's useless info. I know some Subarus in the past have had some bearing issues.
