I have talked to Rob quite a bit this week. Last i heard he had everything EXCEPT the specially machined compressor wheels. Once he gets those he will have to verify they are machined to spec, assemble the kits and bench test.

We are getting close folks, I believe Rob has been in talks with the forum to get a Vendor account as well.

The only setback that i know of is these compressor wheels were supposed to be here at the begining of January.

Also, Rob I'm assuming you got my old controller by now. Did you discover anything weird on the pressure sensor?

I'll be upgrading to four batteries as soon as I receive the new controller and harness. I will be moving the starter battery to the trunk and am now working on locations to install it. Rob believes that this will increase pressure by over 1/2 psi through the entire range. That is the neat thing about the esc being able to upgrade without too much investment. There is nothing more I can add to the normal set-up other than the fact that you forget that you have installed --- until you floor it and the car takes off like a jack rabbit.

F.O.D from modifying the sensor to fit in the smaller control/charger unit...The new 5kW unit has a better arrangement.

Noob questions.

I checked out the install .pdf and it says to remove the air intake resonator. Why? Looks like the unit would fit with it still in place.

Also, why is there a resonator in the first place? To make the car sound a certain way?

What about if you wish to return the car back to stock, will eliminating the resonator have any effect? Will it void the warranty?

Thanks.

The intake has to be removed because there is a resonator attached to the side of the intake box that gets in the way of the compressor. You have to drill the rivits and remove the resonator. After that you just cap the hole where the resonator was. Rob includes a cap for this. This doesnt change anything at all with how the car drives or how it sounds(so far as I and others can tell....its actually a common mod to remove all the resonators). There are a bunch more resonators on the actual intake tube as well. For the most part people do not know what these do...

Removing the resonator will not void the warranty.

I was on my way home today thinking about the Phantom ESC and I propose an official name for this type of technology. Turbochargers are gas driven turbines from the exhaust of the engine. Superchargers are mechanical turbines powered by output shafts or belts of the motor. The Phantomcharger is an electrically driven turbine.

Phan·tom·charg·er
noun
1.
a turbine compressor driven by (an) electrical motor(s).

Edit: Another thing I realized was that turbo super and phantom are all two syllable words.
