Any plans on a vented hood to deal with the underhood temps?

I'll cross that bridge when it happens. I'd rather open the fenders grills and let air out that way. But I'm not opposed to a tastefully vented hood.

That's the tricky part for people like us. We want tasteful design, light weight, and great fitment. That gets a bit expensive.

Yeah I haven't seen any hoods that I like. I did just order some spal fans and along with the koyo radiator I don't foresee any problems with this car and daily usage.

Sounds like you've thought this through. I imagine with your fab skills you will be making your own fan shroud as well. I'm interested to see how your car handles heat, because it is the biggest concern for me with front mounted turbos on this platform. I'm really leaning towards the D3PE location to help keep everything up front cool.

Yeah a shroud is pretty straight forward. I'm sure I will have some heat hurdles if I drive it hard but I think its better to address them as they come so I can see what actually works.

On a lot of race cars I have worked on, one of the two radiator fans is wired to always be running. It was kinda annoying to listen to but it definitely helped the whole system out. I could also wire a fan to a manual switch.

What do you think of the high rear offset position?

I definitely like that it doesn't need an oil pump, huge plus. However I don't think its going to be that much of an improvement in engine bay heat. Thats the classic subi location and they still heat up. The only improvement would be that the source of the heat is farther away from the radiator.

I think an intercooler layout like the MAP kit would go awesome on that D3 kit,

I'd take that D3 over mine if I was stuck in 495 summer traffic.

Let me know when you want to try building something similar to that. To me the benefits are:

Further from radiator/limits heat soak
No oil pump like AVO location
Easy to access
Retains factory header or any aftermarket header

I'm beyond jealous of your fab skills. As someone who somewhat recently learned how to weld (if you even wanna call what I can do, welding…) everything you've churned out, looks absolutely incredible.

As for IC cooling, what about mocking up some sort of temperature controlled IC water sprayer? Or water/meth for that matter?

Hmmm, maybe even some NACA ducts under the bumper/front splitter? Or even utilizing the fog light sections of the front bumper?

PS, you could even fab up some sort of heat shields for the alternator and A/C compressor and belt assembly.

Just keep welding. The only difference between and good welder and great welder is 1,000ft of wire.

Water sprayer and water/meth has more to do with intake and power, not engine bay temps.

Amen! hah I got lost reading the thread, I thought everyone was discussing IC temps… but the use of some sort of ducting from the bottom could be used no? Nearly all the VW's now-a-days have some sort of ducting built into the under engine panels.

Something like this:
