Wire the camera power wire all the way up to the headunit?

My friend tried tapping the power it into what I believe is what of the amp 6v wires for the speakers. Works fine, but I guess with speakers loud, it starts cutting out.

So I guess now I need to fix that at some point.

Your options are go back to the head unit so that it is powered only when transmission goes into reverse (preferred method so as to prolong the life of your camera), go back to the fuse block and run a new fuse to accessory (camera will always be powered on with car), or tap into the 12v that goes to the amp in the trunk. Also on whenever the car is powered. I don't remember which pin it is on the amp, but it was discussed in one of these threads before. I think it was a green wire.

If it helps anyone, in the above shots:
Gray: 3rd from left, if you ground this you will bypass the brake lockout of video/nav.
Red: 2nd from left, this is the power. For a Rydeen duo, you ONLY NEED THIS POWER; you tape off the other. No need to connect it to the rear amp/etc.
Pink/Black: 1st from left, and LOWER 1st from left. This is only pink (I believe) because the Rydeen's is pink. I didn't strip the Rydeen, so I can't be 100%. The picture is unclear though so...

When you strip an rca style video wire it has an outer sheath of metal and then another wire (unstripped) inside. So you have to strip it; pull the sheath of wire and twist it up, and then strip the inner wire. The inner wire goes into the top, and the outer sheathing goes into the bottom; that's what your seeing above.

So wiring wise:
1. Attach the ground wire where appropriate.
2. Tape off the 'brake light' red wire.
3. Run the red brake wire into the 2nd from left slot.
4. Strip or convert the RCA wire into two wires and put inner in top and outter in bottom 1st slots.
5. You'll want to glue gun or otherwise secure the wires.

I really like this install and the Rydeen product.

The RCA I cut up for this had the pink, didn't strip the Rydeen either. The insulated wire on an RCA cable will always be the center conductor and the non insulated will be the ground or outer portion of the RCA. Using a "dongle" like this is much preferred as it's a fairly simple disconnect if you need to remove or preposition the cable at a later time.

I also hot glued the hell out of the back of that connector to hold everything in.

Thanks for explaining my pictures better than I could! :happy0180:

He took about five days to get around to answering my emails. Once he did answer, he was quick to reply and fast to ship.

Painting a Rydeen duo

Has anyone tried to paint one of these cameras?
I am thinking that it wouldn't be so difficult for me to mask the camera hole and get a rough match to SWP and make this camera look less visible.
Opinions? Suggestions?
Thanks!

I have that question too. I'm actually surprised to see so many pics of white BRZ/FR-S with a black rear cam. It stands out too much IMHO.

BTW, per previous post #204, I am planning on painting this thing white. I just have to be super careful when I mask the lens.

Just ordered a Rydeen DUO and sent an email to 96svx.dc requesting a 16 - pin rear camera harness plus the power wire. Been wanting to do this install for a while. Thanks to everyone who posted info on how to do it.
