Judging by the 22 gauge power wire on the 1150 I think I'll be safe. I'll know in about an hour or two. Thankfully i ordered the oem power cable pin with my original order from svxdc

Just confirmed the 1150 works on oem 6v supply. No lines from the camera, only the head unit lines. Now to wire it up permanently tomorrow. Ran out of daylight and spent 45 minutes thinking it wasn't working because I forgot to connect the 16 pin harness back into the head unit. Doh!!

I've never wired anything into a HU before. How exactly do you fish the wire behind there?

On the Rydeen Duo, does anyone know if I need to connect that reversing wire to the reverse lamp?

That is the power wire. It won't work connected to the reverse lights because the head unit needs to detect the camera when the car is turned on. You can wire it to an ignition switched source like the green amp wire or if you are using the newer svxdc harness I believe he has a pin/wire to power the camera from the head unit's camera power output. So you would connect that to the power wire.

The "To reverse light power +" wire is much shorter and looks like it wasn't meant to be run to the head unit. |

Yes but make sure you tape up the end of the power wire near the camera.

that will work if you're using an aftermarket head unit but not with the stock unit.
with the stock head unit, if the car doesn't sense the camera as being powered on when the head unit boots up, it won't work. Thus, wire it to accessory power, or to the head unit itself. Wiring it to reverse light power will prove problematic, unless you shift into reverse before you start each time. |

so the camera i had before i had to run a ground and power in the trunk(cheap $30 crap cam)...when i did this to this camera my reverse lights never turned off and the display indicated reverse on the dash...i had no idea what was going on. after reading turns out you dont need to wire it in the trunk with the stock headunit as stated above so i cut the wires and taped it off. so all i did was use the harness provided by SVDX and wired the red wire and RCA connector to the headunit and thats it. easy peasy.
here is the wire i soldered the tiny red wire into. ![]() and this is where i installed the Rydeen duo. ![]() ![]() ![]() with the color of my car the camera is barely noticeable. it is the perfect angle to see the bumper and the nightime visibility is exponentially better than the camera i used to have. sorry for this cellphone shot: ![]() before i had a camera mounted under the reverse/fog light, you can see it here: ![]() ![]() it was some random 30$ camera that i bought because it was flush-mount and i thought i could fit it in the tow hook cover on the rear bumper by cutting a hole...but there is the metal bumper beam there so i couldn't mount it as i wanted. in all honesty if you want to do a back up camera, just spend the money on a good quality camera like the rydeen, because otherwise you'll get terrible quality. also when i mounted that camera i realized it still didn't give me a good distance judgement, with the rydeen i can see the back bumper so i can actually see how close i am to what ever is behind me, thats the maint reaon why i got a camera, to see how close i am. i dont really use it to back up or park, jsut to judge distance because i always back into parking spots. |
