well the verdict is that the car is totaled. My insurance is going to have to take over because the girl who hit me had state minimum coverage and my lawyer said it's best to not go after the state's insurance. it's easily 3 years in and out of court and most likely won't get anything worth wild.

So the insurance is low balling me on value, but i have the owner of a Subaru dealership helping me out. Friend of family. So I may be able to get a few hundred more (Progressive is being a PITA). So that's where I am at right now.

Will

I'm sorry to hear that but I have to make a comment, not directed at you but to everyone. When shopping for insurance don't allow yourself to think you're saving money by going with the cheapest rate you can get. You want to take into consideration their handling of claims when you try to decide which company is the best one to go with.

All insurance companies are low-balling scumbags when it comes time to file a claim. For every person who has a story talking about how awesome their insurance company is, there is another person saying how worthless they are.

Here in New Zealand we can take out agreed value insurance where you can name your value, pay premiums on that and know the payout you will get. Obviously the value must be agreed so they won't allow it to be excessive but my agreed valued covers new car plus mods.

Toyota Insurance and some others also offer a brand new car if totaled within three years of new.

Do you not have these options in USA?

Not that I'm aware of. If we do and I don't know about it I'm changing mine with the quickness.

If you manage to get cover like mine just make sure you keep them informed of any mods and each year think about the agreed cover. No point in paying premiums on an amount that is far more than you could get a second hand replacement with similar or less miles on it.
