Why not just buy a quaife at this point. Only a few more dollars and a sequential trans. And why not base it off a much cheaper and easier trans to locate.. T56?

You've obviously never driven a sequential. They're brutal.

Also, a quaife is no where near as strong or as streetable as a v16x.

A v16x conversion kit is a welcome product in my eyes. The box we're running isn't exactly going to be cheap to replace. I would wager you could find a v16x cheaper. Question is do you do it before or after blowing a box. If you do it before, you can always swap it back before selling the car.

I've never seen the point in intentionally blowing something up, when you're going to replace it. Pull the good unit out first and store/sell it.

I owned a S2000 quaife back when i had my car time attack car.. I know them very well (and service them). For the price of that kit and trans, Id rather spend a few more $$ and have the sequential. My .02.

I know that the tunnel needed " massaging to fit a 2j w/ a v160 so maybe this case is simmilar.

That's bad ass!!

Not to add insult to injury but there is a guy on SF who just rolled his Soup and selling the entire car (has about 156K) for 10K; engine, tranny, diff, axle etc. I told him he's smoking crack if he want's 10K b/c who knows what the condition of the internals are in.

He's ok but the car is done. The guy is up in Sac and if anybody is interested, I can PM you his number.

Hmmm.. so theoretically you could bolt up an R154 with a 1JZ bellhousing as well...

For those that don't know, the R154 is the MKIII Supra Turbo 5-speed. Yeah, you'd lose a gear, but 5th is actually a better highway gear than the 6th in the V160 because of the ratios. Plus the tranny is FAR cheaper than a V160.

This ! I used both , the v160 is far superior but price is an issue. Plus the gears are SO long on a r154

The bell housing will have to be modified to fit the starter, clutch will be a twin disc

we shouldn't have to mod the tunnel.

Not sure what the stock one weighs, the v160 weighs roughly 115lbs

Yes, you could run the R154

If you look hard enough, you can find them for around $3500. Not cheap but a gearset for this trans will end up costing just as much if not more.

Our Aisin in the FRS/BRZ cost $4.800.00 to $5,000.00 last time I checked and rated to only 210ftlbs of torque,....if your FI this is something you will definitely have to consider. Kudos to Full Blown and Don at Accelerated Performance for addressing this weak link.
