Thing is, that little drive also showed me that there's some nice gains to be had from tuning on the stock-exhaust equipped cars, too. I think that's mainly b/c the stock tune on these cars is crap for our pump gas. These cars come to the US meant to be run on 93 octane, and 91 is only possible as an 'acceptable' fuel, with the intention being "Run 91 if you have to until you can get to your normal 93 octane station." Travis said that as an experiment when he was in a 92 octane area, he reflashed his tune to stock and filled up with 92 and the difference between our 91 piss gas on stock tune and the 92 octane on stock tune was quite noticeable.

So, I may just get "stage 1" (stock) tuned with a NP exhaust (overpipe/downpipe replacement + axleback) just b/c the car is going to be nicer to drive even on pump gas with that tune on our crappy gas.

I've also been told that for FI, we really do need to upgrade the injectors. Apparently the stock port injectors are only 250cc! (yikes!)
You forgot you have Di injectors that are rated 200-250CC depending on conditions.

So you have over 500cc of injection available to you. You do not need to upgrade your injectors or pump for 200-250WHP FI. Once you pass about 250-270 depending on the tune is where you will be getting closer to threshold. I made 255WHP on pump gas on the OEM fuel system. Others have made upwards of 270-290WHP.

It's not always using both PI and DI, so there's still the possibility of having fuel flow issues.

With a mostly OEM setup, sure there's no reason to upgrade injectors, but with FI, if I'm going to be reaching the upper limits of the max flow capacity of the hybrid system, I'm going to want to give my system some more "breathing room" as it were.

Besides, doing it while installing the FI kit would make sense. Just get all the tuning done then.

ID 850cc (I've heard too many horror stories about dw injectors, though heard good things about their pumps... and get your mind out of the gutter ) injectors are only about $500 at rallysport.

I have FIC 540's im selling and a dw65c. Was going with my supercharger kit, im half tempted to keep the blower though -.-

What are your power goals, and what fuel? On pump gas the car is being pushed quit a bit on 300WHP. That involves pulling timing quite a bit as your really pushing the knock wall. Thats why i say if your just doing basic FI... little reason to upgrade.

But if you plan on e85 and higher power fuel upgrades are a must.

And when you tune the car you can turn on DI and port whenever... Typically its ran at about 50/50 ratio on the OEM fuel setup. There is a limit and you will know when the limit is, its not just a magical "Oh one setup turned off" it doesn't run automatically, you configure the maps to do so.

I was going to call ID monday about some injectors, looking around 850cc to 1200cc my self.

The 540 still had quite a bit of room left @ 360WHP. But as I am lowering my compression a bit ill be fighting higher manifold pressures now and need a bit more to compensate. (There are a few threads i have made about pumps).

Also full blown offered me a fantastic price on injectors & pump. I am pretty sure they had to have misquoted me... but might be worth a call. I don't know what pump they are re-branding though so I personally don't want to run it without more info. I asked them to email me info on the pump and they never got back to me on that part =/

My power goals are basically that: while attempting to maintain reasonable average fuel efficiency within the OEM range, 240-280 whp. staying with pump gas, though willing to go with e85 if I have it available as a flex fuel option (so I don't have to drain the tank and switch maps if I don't have it available). I'm not looking to make this into a HP monster (I would have stayed with the STI if that'd been my goal... easier to build up that engine and FI system right now with the experience and parts available), just looking to eliminate the anemic performance of this car and make her as quick as other folks seem to think she looks .

For those goals you could obtain that on OEM fuel system... If you just want a hair more you could get your OEM injectors modified Aaron over at FAT did this to his OEM and got them up to a bit over 500cc. But like I said... 250 ball park range is just fine OEM. Almost every turbo kit uses the OEM fuel system. A few of the kits add "addons" or add injectors even though you don't need it as a way to make an extra few bucks (one vendor specifically told me this lol).

For flex fuel you will need injectors & pump though.

This sounds like something you would do... You aren't one to talk. Maybe you cut the guy off and you pissed him off and he flew by you to get your attention?

Haha no he was in the far right lane and i pulled up to the stop light in the far left lane. Then he just kept trying to get me to race from there. I was driving normal the entire time not once did i speed up to try to catch him or anything. And he kept changing lanes without using a blinker. Cut across three lanes to turn left and i ended up right next to him again. After the left turn he punched it again.Biggest ass ever.

And how does that sound anything like me? I cant remember the last time i tried racing a total stranger.

Plus im in a stock frs. There isnt much out there i can beat. Maybe a prius.

I normally don't play but he asked for it so I went it was an interstate race he down shifted further than I did as I am not sure the shift points on these.

Either way walked away from him, I was even mean and started letting off and getting on the gas.

Same thing happened a few weeks later with a 350z and the same result but that was the Stage 2 91 Tune and Headers, he could pull right when we hit but he got a little more then a fender and I pulled him in.

I have to say I am impressed with the FR-S for being what it is coming from the Vette its done surprisingly well.

No one has pushed to race me since I switched to E85.
