I think we need to stop using info from magazines and car shows, and only trust SoA...

I got an email from my local dealer this morning after I sent them an email telling them I would not consider a preorder or deposit until I had pricing information (which I don't plan to do anyway since I'm getting my car in Tampa)

They replied that they should have all preorder information and pricing within the next two weeks.

We are getting close!

The Subaru marketing site just said May 2012 IIRC. I could be wrong.

Video says early May 2012 anyways

Dave.

Have you chatted with our dealer at all recently about the potential to preorder given some of the news lately ?

Just curious if they have been updated recently with new information on the possibility to potentially pre-order ?

So, I went to the local Toy/Scion dealership and asked to be put on the wait list for the FR-S. The Sales Mgr said there were only 3 others on the wait list but he would require a $500 (refundable) deposit to put my name on the wait list. I told him forget it, and that I would go to a dealership that would treat me like an adult (I'm 47). He had this smug look on his face and could have cared less and said sure okay. Anyhow, I am a frequent car buying guy and will be paying cash for this car unless I can get a 0.9% finance rate from my Credit Union and just sit of the cash as it draws interest, but one thing I'm not going to do is give my money or business to a dealership who treats me like I'm not going to follow through with the purchase. It isn't about the money because I have more than enough to buy this car but its the principle of how they treated me. I have gone to this particular dealership 3 times in the recent past when purchasing 2 toyota's and 1 scion since its close to my home but they have never failed in losing my business so in the past I ended up going to another dealership to make those 3 purchases. Anyhow, I want this car but not enough to lower my standards to get the damn thing. Its just a car...Oh, and by the way, the sales manager said the FR-S would be available mid March...thats what he said as he looked at his inventory screen, so i don't know....????

Okay, ummm the Internet Sales guy I have been talking to at Subaru of Plano had stopped emailing me two days ago. But today, I got an email from another guy at SoP saying "I am your new Sales contact, do you have any questions?"

You think it's because the previous guy said too much? Or maybe because he was about to tell me when the display models were coming...

Really dude? What do you expect. Your not doing business with BWM. Your dealing with a dealership who's primary target is young males. If there was no deposit required that list would probably ballon to hundreds of people. Just look at the First 86 which got 80k sign ups! The money is 100% refundable im not sure what the big deal is. Its not like the money isn't going to go towards the car anyways. It's like going to gamestop to reserve a game and then bitching at them when they ask for 5 dollars down.

It's pretty typical around this time of year for the bottom 10 - 20% of sales staff to either quit/get canned/whatever since sales slow down considerably. Sounds like you became an "free agent" of sorts in their CRM system. The CRM tool likely put you in his customer list as a inherited client. I wouldn't read too much into it.
