We usually recommend Torco or Motul!

For a daily oil, we usually recommend the X-cess 5w40. Let me know if I can help you out with anything! Thanks, Mike |

Probably a combination of winter blend (if you're in areas where temps drop below freezing) and not babying it anymore - when I first got the car, I was getting over 30mpg (i.e 30.5 etc) and now have dropped to 27-ish due to the above combo

It would be impossible to say you're not driving different. The wind and ambient temperature can affect your gas mileage. How many miles have you used the Amsoil?
I am using Amsoil 0w-20, and in fact my gas mileage got better and the car is quieter compared to the break-in oil. I also rev it much higher than during the break-in period. But again, there are so many variables that it would be impossible for me to tell exactly. I am basing it on the in-car counter which may or may not be accurate. |

Amsoil is supposed to be kick ass. There must be something else going on - doesn't make sense...

I used to run 20W50 in a lot of my cars. Why do the Subaru boxer motors and other cars such as Hondas, Toyotas, Mercedes and BMW's, now require 0W20? Old Honda Civics run on any oil you put in 'em. It seems the oil would be a little light for high temperature, hot summer, hard driving.
I know they engineer the motors better today, but where's the protection? What happens if a guy put 20W50 in an FR-S? Not that any of you would. To keep the warranty good I guess you have to use it. I'm not a mechanic. Anyone care to comment? |
