There's some outdoor barrier/repellent stuff you can buy at pet stores. I had a problem with the neighbors cat getting on my xB, which led to scratch marks. I used a spray (not sure what it's called, don't have it in front of me) and a product that could be sprinkled on the ground (smelled god awful). It seemed to work, though I imagine it will depend on the cat too, and you'll probably have to re-apply after rain/snow.

In Thailand... They actually do this to prevent a monkey getting on top of your car, but I'm not quite sure if this is going to work with cats.

Unless you get rid of the cat, maybe it is time to invest in a car cover.

Hide in your car. When the cat gets on top of it turn it on and gun the engine.

1. install a train horn in your car with a timer that sets it off every hour. the cat will learn.

2. get a dog

3. fire hose

4. put cat food on someone else's car so it goes there instead

5. firecrackers

6. install airbags in your car so when the cat is on it you can literally fling the cat off by launching your front end in the air.

How about a fan or a strobe light on an extension cord, set near the car somewhere, just to disturb the peace. If there is too much noise, motion or light the cat might move on.

I have two German Shephards, they pretty much keep cats away. You could try that. Also, go lay on the hood of the cat owner's car hood. Maybe they will figure out what's what. I had a person who would always let their dog poo in my front yard. My dogs have a back yard, and don't use the front yard. Anyway, I finally figured out who was letting their dog use my yard, and I politely asked them to stop. After the fifth time of asking nicely with no results, I took my two German Sheps to that person's house when the dogs needed outside, and let them do their business in that person's yard. It only took one time and I have yet to clean up the other people's dog poo again. Perhaps it will work in your case by sleeping on their hood, they will realize it is poor manners to let their animal run free on other's property. If it is just a stray, you need to deal with it anyway. Stray cats turn in to many many stray cats. I know it sounds cruel, but doing nothing may be more cruel.
