Let me chime in and say I just had a GREAT experience with my Toyota service department.(Hoover Toyota) I had a rattle in the headliner of the
FR-S, and they took their time and did a fantastic job and the rattle is gone!

This was a complaining thread to begin with so why expect useful info? It wasn't a question it was "this is why I'm mad"
That said, here's some useful info. I have a June 13 build date on my new 10 series. It has crickets after 500 miles and haven't gone away quite yet (only at 2700 miles). I'm going to wait till 10k to bring it in for crickets since many have has them disappear after then. Unless I get some knockiNg or cels I'm not worried and I'll use my warranty on anything Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2

In fact, sometimes when they are making noise it will die down a bit and just be a chirp here and then, then pick up to constant chirp again. Really depends, we'll see how it goes over the next 8000 miles. If at 10k nothing has changed I'm bringing her in again

I don't understand why people think that the crickets are a problem. Sure the sound is undesirable, but it's because of how the fuel pump is designed. Crickets are no cause for concern. The more stress you put on the pump (i.e hard driving, hot ambient temperatures, etc.) the more likely you are going to get the noise. Deal with it and hope that they have a revised pump, but I wouldn't hold my breath. It's not a design "flaw".

For a brand new car though it is kind of a jalopy sound. I think Toyota will likely develop a new design, they've already revised it once so that at least shows its getting looked at. I wouldn't even be mad if they left the design alone and just have all FR-S BRZ a lifetime DI seal replacement warranty to replace them every 10k miles as the crickets got bad. From my understanding sound (crickets) is created from friction. Friction equals wear.
So it theory a squeaky fuel pump will wear out quicker than a non squeaky one. Thoughts? |

You realize how insane that sounds, right? The DI Seal problems aren't related to the fuel pump, they're related to bad ECU programming. Most cars with a 2013 build date are fixed (running 01C ECU calibration). Replacing your Direct Injectors every 10k miles won't stop the crickets, because they're not what causes them. |

On my MS6 which had ONLY direct injection, the HPFP would fail after the simple addition of a downpipe, sometimes even stock. And by fail I mean cease to provide fuel required for proper running conditions.

The DI seals have nothing to do with the crickets. The crickets are caused by the high pressure fuel pump. And, although they are annoying, there is no evidence that indicated the crickets are causing any failures or issues outside of being really annoying.
