Same here. My issue started out as a 6th gear grind that came out of nowhere after 3000rpm. Then I started noticing 4th gear grinding at high RPM. Central Fl. Toyota replaced it for me after the 2nd complaint. They said they had to call it in and wait for an answer to replace the tranny. Hope this doesn't turn out to be an issue that never gets resolved like the 3rd gear grinds in the Civic Si.

Mine only grinds 5th. Phew I thought it was only my car that did it. I'll be taking it in soon then.

They're going to flush my transmission today at Hanson Suabru in Olympia and look for "debris." Sooner or later I'm sure it'll be replaced.

I just talked to the dealer, when they flush my transmission they found metal debris. They're going to ship it to Subaru for inspection, and they're currently replacing my transmission. The bummer is that they're being held up by a $5 part that they didn't know they needed and had to order from Florida.

Just brought mine in for the 7500 mile service and reported 3rd to 4th grind. They knew right away what I was talking about. Apparently a few others reported the problem to the same dealer. Was advised that Toyota is still researching for cause/solution.

I've heard people that have gotten transmission fluid changes see improvements. I have about 23K miles on my car and changing gears is smooth as butter 99% of the time. Every once in a while it'll grind but then I can't tell if it's because I left off the clutch too early or if I didn't put it in gear all the way.

No one ever answered my question on this. Do you guys with issues skip gears? Or have you in the past?
Like going from 3rd to 5th on an upshift etc?

I personally never skipped gears before or after my 4th gear issues with my previous transmission. Even after the issue showed up I still went to 4th, just gingerly. Strangely, with my new transmission I've been skipping gears quite often, just to see if I can improve my MPG.
