If its $30k I am out...there is no way with the car as stripped down as the current FR-S we have seen will be that expensive. Even the BRZ limited is over priced at $30k.

Subaru and scion are going to do us right in the pricing department. They are just waiting till the last min to announce it. But you will get the pricing before you order it. I think orders will start late feb.

IMO the Limited will be overpriced at anything over $28k and even that is stretching it a bit.

Watch for the bespoke to be standard.

JDM Toyota 86 Pricing Announced at 1,990,000 Yen/25,848.18 USD Base

Pricing for the much anticipated compact FR, the Toyota 86 was revealed today for the Japanese domestic market. The customizable grade base price is 1,990,000 JY which today comes out to be $25,848 in the US at 76.9 JY to the dollar.
There will be 4 grades/packages which will all come with the 2.0L engine, 2WD(FR) and 6 speed manual transmission. There will be a 6 speed automatic apart from the base grade.

The 1,990,000 JY "Customize Grade" is the base model that has no A/C and comes with unpainted bumpers for racing and customizing purposes. The standard "G" grade is 2,410,000 JY(31,303.73 USD), a middle grade "GT" comes in at 2,790,000 JY(36,239.59 USD) and the most highest grade "GT Limited" will go for 2,970,000 JY(38,578.15 USD). The 6AT will be approximately 6 to 70,000 JY in addition.

The "G" grade option lineup are the 3 spoke steering wheel, shift knob, a 19,950 JY( 259.13 USD) genuine leather parking brake lever, 6MT torsion LSD for 31,500 JY(409.18 USD), projector type discharge headlamps (with LED clearance lamp) with Con Light for 87,150 JY(1,132.07 USD) and sports aluminum pedals for the 6MT are 12,600 JY(163.66 USD) and AT listed at 9,450JY(122.745 USD). These could come standard for GT grade and higher.

Usually floor mats are dealer options but they come equipped for the Toyota 86. The 86 strives for controlling performance as a sportscar and the pedal operation is placed with high priority to achieve a perfect match between the pedals and the floormat.

Orders are bein taken, official release if February 2 and production is scheduled to start on March 12.
We have to note that the exchange rate is not favorable for those living in the US and waiting to purchase the equivalent Scion FR-S(or the Subaru BRZ). We're curious to see how Scion/Toyota US sets the price and is willing to eat the loss on the exchange rate to give US customers a fair choice for the USDM.

That is just taking what I found with the Roadster and applying it to the 86. I'm not sure if those US MX-5 models are exactly equivalent to the JDM models. FRS we know is only going to be available in one trim which looks like it is equivalent to the G trim in Japan. The GT trim seems to have the same options as the BRZ premium here, and the GT Limited seems like it would be the equivalent of the BRZ limited.

You get articles like this, that pretty much kill your buzz.

I say this because most people don't know, that Pricing for cars do not covert exactly across currencies. There are many different factors to consider, importation, taxes, etc.

In general, you get around a 105:1 ratio for Yen > Dollar conversion for cars using the after-tax pricing.

Speaking of which, the highlighted, bigger-in-bold prices are *after* taxes. There's 税込 (tax incl) and税抜 (tax excluded), everybody's basing it off the price after tax. Amateur hour at lots of automotive sites.

someone placed an order in Japan (estimated delivery in May) and they paid 3,215,480 yen for a G with a few options (leather steering wheel 19,950, HID 87,150, sport alumimum pedals 9,450, basic Sat-nav 125,475 and rear monitor 42,000, ETC toll machine 36,330 etc).







a quick translation for the last pic, car price 2,480,000, factory option 116,550, dealer fitted option 320,355 = subtotal 2,916,905. plus delivery charge 298,575 (with included sales tax 141,043) = total 3,215,480

As a former automotive photojourno, all those misleading articles are *why* the manufacturers are coy about announcing pricing early. The only reason pricing is getting out in Japan is because they gave dealerships in that market the go-ahead to start pre-orders, mainly so they can get an idea about demand and how they'll have to pump them out of the factories.

Just because we are starting to see cars here and there doesn't mean regular production is underway. Manufacturers make a pre-run of hand assembled cars to get out to journalists, to use as demonstrators for dealers to drive, for the advertising agencies to use to make the dealer training catalogs, etc. Sad thing is they have to crush them afterwards as they are not road legal cars...

So, anyways, they don't like getting pricing information out because the press always leaps to conclusions. And the manufacturers know it. Just because this car is important to all of you doesn't mean it's important to a guy that is jumping in and out of a different car daily, being rushed to write something interesting about it.

Manufacturers set prices for every country based on what the market will bear, not on exactly what it costs to make the car. I've been involved in such, it's no easy task, and they'll be literally trying to get that sorted out up to the last minute.
