Now, if you walk onto the lot 6-8 months after the release and see one yeah you might get bent over on the price. FR-S or not.

Toyota is extremely strict about continuity across the Scion dealer network. They do not want dealers messing with new buyers. The whole point of Scion and its fixed pricing is to create Toyota brand loyalty. If your dealer ****s you around call the Scion customer service hotline.

Yeah there are some good Subaru dealers out there. If you do some research, pick some that are far up north, like Minot, ND...I doubt they will be selling many BRZ in the middle of the winter.....ie winter 2013...if you want to wait that long.

Some markets will probably get a much smaller allocation. It's sort of like how you can not buy a 2WD Pathfinder anymore in the NE or how they do not sell any AWD Lexus IS250's and GS350's in Southern California. If you are in the snow belt, etc. You will likely have to special order or get really lucky on a walk in, even after the car is released.

Toyota 86 Sports Car Priced From $25,600 in Japan INSIDELINE...

Toyota 86 Sports Car Priced From $25,600 in Japan
By Paul Lienert, Correspondent | Published Jan 24, 2012

Just the Facts:
  • Toyota announced in Japan that prices for the new 86 sports car will range from $25,600 for a bare-bones "customizable" model to $38,200 for the top-of-the-line GT Limited trim level.
  • The Toyota 86 will be offered in Japan in four trim levels — Customize Grade, G, GT and GT Limited — according to the Web site gtchannel.com.
  • The starter Customize Grade comes without air-conditioning and gets unpainted bumpers.

TOKYO — Toyota announced Tuesday in Japan that prices for the new 86 sports car will range from $25,600 for a bare-bones "customizable" model to $38,200 for the top-of-the-line GT Limited edition.
The Toyota 86 will be offered in Japan in four trim levels — Customize Grade, G, GT and GT Limited — according to the Web site gtchannel.com.
The starter Customize Grade comes without air-conditioning and gets unpainted bumpers for "racing and customizing purposes," according to the Web site. The standard G grade is priced from $31,000 and the step-up GT grade is $35,900.
Among the extra-cost options are a six-speed automatic transmission, limited-slip differential, aluminum pedals and three-spoke steering wheel.
Production for the Japanese domestic market starts March 12, and dealers have started taking orders.
The 86 goes on sale in the U.S. this spring rebadged as the 2013 Scion FR-S. Prices haven't been announced, but Toyota has said the U.S. car will start "under $30,000."

Inside Line says: Could be a tough sell in the States against a Miata that starts at less than $25,000.

Most important thing I read all day. Wasn't aware the Miata was even in that range.

We got a march 12th production start date in Japan! That's new. So that means the first 86 FR-S winners might have their cars by end of April into may!

They are already filming the scion FR-S commercial starting today.

Wow...Big cluster fuck article that will hurt US interest sales.

translating Japanese Yen to USD, then comparing translation to actual figures for the US market. big no no

Car A translated to $25,000 USD from yen, Compared to Car B with Price point USD with no currency translation.

It should have been; Car A is xYEN Car B is xYen...Car A translates to 25kUSD...Car B translates to 2xxUSD.

+1 for sure

i wonder which of these 'grades' will the frs most resemble? g or gt? the g has the lsd as an option but we confirmed the frs will have it as standard.

it looks like were getting the most bang for the buck with the frs since it will have a bunch of optional toyota jdm stuff as standard, similarly equiped to the premium brz, but with a lower price tag

I am now starting to believe that US dealers will have the cars in late spring (mid June) instead of early spring (Late March).
