don't put too much into the pricing of the 86 in japan vs. the GT86 and your FRS. like i said before in a post it all depends on how well your local distributor negotiates the price of the 86 and how many they buy during the production cycle. if they sign up for a lot they will get better pricing for the car but it doesn't neccesarily mean it will translate to a lower purchase price. they could get a better price but still charge 25000 dollars. lets say they get a price of 21000 dollars from manufacturing, they can end up selling it to your dealer for 24,000 and the dealer sell it to you for 25,000. that's a 3000 profit for the distributor that also has to market the car.

Might even be more than that. Since a lot of people are looking forward to this car, dealers can pretty much price it however much over MSRP they want, within reason.

The Camry is assembled in the states though. This takes a lot of the possible exchange rate fluctuations out of the price. The FR-s will not be the same.

As someone else pointed out the camry is built here in the US that alone makes it cheaper to produce. Also keep in mind the camry sells in a lot larger volume than this car will. That means they can sell it cheaper per vehicle. I think unfortunately this car will be sitting right around 24k-25k for the base model. Maybe the FR-S will go for 23k but I wouldn't expect it to be any cheaper. Look at some of the other cars it would be crosshoped against. The miata and rx8.

US Camrys are build here, not to mention US Camry and Japanese Camry are entirely different...

And another thing is US dollars dropped around 32% compare to Japanese yen since 08 from 1:110 to 1:76.....

Only if I changed all my savings into yen back then!

People keep talking about paying over MSRP. If you buy from Scion you definitely won't. Unless you're simply not paying attention. That's simply how they do business.

I don't care any more how much MSRP will be. I just want to know now so I can decide whether to wait for it or just go buy a different car.

Yeah there is not going to be any of this $5k market adjustment pricing on the Scion FR-S. Toyota does not allow it!


I am still going with $23k for the base price of the FR-S before options...and yes there will be options...

Honestly, whatever this means, there is NO WAY the FR-S/86 from Toyota could cost more (in highest trim) than the $24,000 most-likely-set-in-stone price of the BASE BRZ.

Unless adding that Pioneer App-radio thing.

Well, from what I can see, if that App-radio thing is included, the only difference between the FRS and the BRZ premium is well... the HIDs -_-;

I mean really, the two cars shouldn't have that big of a price difference.

yes!!! $22,135.05 in U.S money (: for the lowest one that is.. haha but it might be cheaper since its a scion and its different than Japans 86

The Subaru dealer where I put my deposit down at also said they would only be charging MSRP.

Now, if you walk onto the lot 6-8 months after the release and see one yeah you might get bent over on the price. FR-S or not.
