The price difference it largely due to two factors:
1) The GT86 you get, as others have mentioned, is like a BRZ limited, and has a lot of features the FR-S does not. 2) VAT. This adds 20% to the price, and unlike US state sales taxes, for those who have them, is usually baked into the advertised price. When you take these factors into account the price disparity isn't as big as you think. That said, I'd still be jealous too. Looking at the price sheet here, a base GT86 starts at just under 20k GBP before VAT and any other taxes or fees. This equates to ~31k USD. Given it comes with most of the features of the limited, which starts at 27.5k USD, suddenly the price difference isn't so severe. It's taxes that make up the majority of the difference. 100% sure? Just checked the Toyota Belgium website - it's not mentioned in the interior features. Is that dealer installed equipment? Where is the sensor located? Can you post pictures pls?! Sorry for the offtopic but I want the auto-whipers badly!!

Yup its certainly affordable here in the states. Average new car sold in the US is over $30,000 so the twins are less than the average.
Plus I'm only paying $190 per month for mine so yes its certainly affordable for someone with a low wage :P |

I don't think we're very lucky.. Sure this car isn't expensive but how many badass cars NEVER came to the US?
To name a few: Skyline, S15 silvia, JZX Chasers, Focus ST(Which is a Ford.....wtf?) and list goes on and one. Don't even get me started on our government... Edit: Focus RS. My wife has an ST

I'm 90 % shure that the car i drove had automatic wipers (currently i'm still waiting for mine to arrive), But I also can't find it on the Toyota website, strange ![]() The sensor was installed next to the sensor for the automatic lights ( on the windshield behind the rearview mirror) I'll check this tomorrow at my work there are a few guys who are Lucky enough to have there car already. |

That term "American Dream" has really been abused, particularly by non-Americans. The dream refers to a dream of upward mobility. That was critically important when we were a nation of 70% renters and our parents and grandparents were immigrants. The idea was that children would live substantially better than their parents, own their own home, become educated have professional work or a trade and plan for even better lives than their children. However as indoor plumbing became the norm, home ownership became a majority position the powerful meaning of the dream became less important. The leap from rental to ownership, and from walking to a car is, after all, far greater than the leap to bigger home and two cars. As for the poor, they suffered from being left behind. Instead of being "us" as in the majority, or a condition one suffered in youth, or at least your parents or grandparents experienced, it became a condition of "them." Social science research has shown that vaunted American "mobility" of jumping social and income classes now lags far behind many advanced countries. The US has instead become a country of 1) a large cohort of people who remain steadily in the middle class (contracting), 2) a growing population of people who are slipping out of the middle class, 3) a large population of very poor who have limited access to health car, quality education and potential to advance, 4) a cadre of highly privileged (intergenerational wealth) people, and 5) a tiny population of super rich who own an unprecedentedly large chunk of of national wealth. The mistake most journalists and writers make is to talk about the "American Dream" as a specific thing. For example a desire to own a classic car, or a small ranch or retire to Phoenix. That is not the American Dream. |

We never had any skyline or any other Japanese sportscar. Even the American muscle car are not available here. We get the mustang now but only with a 4 cylinder engine (WTF!) We have to be happy with the European sportscars only |

Motorex is a whole different thing entirely. It wasn't actually offered by Nissan here. My dad owned one of the few R34's that were 100% legal that was brought stateside by Motorex. If anything, Motorex fucked up our chance. The car is still here in the states from what I understand. East coast somewhere. This one: ![]() Until they become 25 years old, they will never be 100% legal again. Nobody wants to dish out the money to make it happen.

Motorex was the chance though! All we had to do we had to do was add a few safety features, 5 catalytic converters and we were good to go. But no one gave a fuck and we lost our chance. Sigh. Though ironically at the same time vintage American Muscle cars are constaly shipped to Japan and Europe. They love our Hemis.

Part of the process for getting these cars legalized is crashing a bunch of them. I believe Motorex crashed 6 for safety testing. WHOLE CARS. Not just shells. So, in order for it to happen again, somebody needs to buy 4 fully operation, complete R34s just so they can be smashed. Never gonna happen
