Am I Extremely Lucky? Ordered one month ago, already have a VIN!
Hey all,
Feel free to move this thread if need be, I feel like there's a hundred similar stories floating around this forum, but I wanted to share my latest experience ordering my BRZ. I placed an order with Parkway Subaru in Wilmington, NC on July 12. I ordered a WRB BRZ Ltd with manual transmission. I was quoted a December delivery date, and provided a VON a few days later. I did find out from the sales manager that my order was their first for a BRZ, so I was number one in the waitlist. I called SOA about one week after I placed the order and verified with them that yes, my estimated delivery was in December. Well, today I called SOA back just to check in, and was told that lo and behold, I have a VIN! I was provided the number at my request, and told to contact my dealer as they would be my best source for information going forward regarding a delivery date. I emailed my salesperson and he was quite surprised to hear that I have a VIN already, and told me the sales manager would look into it and get back to me next week (she's on vacation.) I have to imagine that since there's a VIN, my car exists and is on a boat somewhere right now. There's no way it'll be December before I get the vehicle, so now I'm starting to get greedy and hope it's here by the end of the month! I'm guessing the reason my car is coming so fast is that I picked an extremely popular color, transmission, and trim option. But it does seem that Subaru is manufacturing a butt load of WRB BRZs, so if people order those maybe they can get their car a little faster. |

Most cars have VIN's before they even hit the assembly line so don't assume too much......

Actually, we don't usually see the VIN till they arrive on the shores. At least, that's how the earlier deliveries went.

I ordered in March, still no VIN. I'm over preordering. I'm just going to go out and find one on my own schedule.

I ordered on 7/17, and got my VIN today.
so less than a month. Delivery ETA 9/17. ![]() I'd say it's part luck, part skill. I chose to place my order with the largest volume Subaru dealer in the U.S. - and it seems to have made a difference. |

To the OP, lots of WRB are getting delivered in August. It's a coincidence but you're also lucky to order the right color at the right time. Subaru manufactures in batches of same paint and i figure they had just made a bunch of WRBs looking at trend of this and the other forum. Mine is wrb and was delivered 2weeks ago. So were 3 other guys who got theirs in Aug. My dealers next allocation coming end of Aug is also WRB. Both were the last 2 slots in the preodered list.

So much hate swelling... JK
On one hand I'm glad that GBS will be so rare. One the other I want my BRZ .... In any case congratulations man! Definitely seems like a LOT of WRB orders are being fulfilled... IMO I wish this whole process went as smoothly as when the MINIs launched back in 2004... When you placed an order they actually started making that car and they had a website so you could track the order from factory to boat to coast etc...

Yikes, sorry. Out of curiosity, do you know what number you are in the wait list at your dealership? Or, did you have anything added that isn't just a simple port accessory? I'm trying to figure out this whole ordering system still. There must be some method to the madness...

I'm 2 of 3 at the dealership. The first guy got his car this month. He ordered a couple days before me. I was hoping to get mine next month. Only options are Homelink/Compass mirror and rear diffuser.
