Mazda MX5 $45 000

Everything costs double here yet we pay nearly the same for the 86. We also get it as the toyota and get all options if needed for an extra 4k which is nothing comparing with the price relative to other sports cars. What an absolute bargain. Mind = blown
You pretty much CAN'T afford not to get an 86 there

Just to put that even a little bit more in perspective.

Honda S2000 $70 000 (In 1999 RBA Inflation Rates would mean 100k today.)
Nissan 200SX S15 Silvia $45000 (RBA Inflation = 60k in 2012)
Honda Integra Type R DC5 $50,000 (RBA Inflation = 70k in 2012)

I'm pretty sure those were the new car prices in Australia, then Wise adjusted them for inflation to 2012 price points.

Anyway i can't complain, on my job we had a GT86 for "multimedia evaluation".
I was one of the few lucky one that was allowed to drive it
I took the car for several weekends and i love it.
And according to one off my collegues this car wil be added to the company's lease car list, if that price is ok i'm getting one for sure.

I believe there are already other threads about pricing difference for each country.
If I am not mistaken the most expensive place to own this car would be at Singapore.

Of course price alone does not justify the car ownership cost. This car will cost $160K at Singapore where the GDP per capita is $ 60K, while same car will costs $60K in other countries like Indonesia but average people only earning $5K per year.

You guys forget that your countries have more developed low-middle class societies than here. Your access to a higher salary, higher cash flow (aka healthcare, education) and minimum wage is a lot higher than here.

US is still stuck in the 70s mentality where $7.75 is somewhat an ok wage for a poor idiot that doesn't have skills, or in this case, a kid that is still in highschool and working part time to get himself his first car.

The difference is credit availability. Here there is more of that, but no necessarily for the right reasons. The predatory practices of banks that you guys have pretty much eliminated in Europe are still rampart here. Therefore "16 year olds" are fooled into accepting horrible rates for loans of vehicles they clearly can't afford (or at least not with a part time job). The result more often than not, is them having to work "few years" after school, therefore postponing college and setting themselves in a course of a mediocre american life.

So no, believe me, you guys are the lucky ones.

You guys think of the conversion rate all wrong. The conversion rate of Dollars to Euros is ~1.3. But that doesn't dictate the value of items when comparing between countries. Someone that makes $50k a year in the US would also probably make about 50k Euros or more for a similar job in the EU rather than 38k Euros that you would expect based on the conversion. A Big Mac may cost $2 here but it will probably cost 2 Pounds in London. The doesn't mean that people in London actually pay twice as much for a Big Mac.

In other words, the conversion rate only works for taking money from one currency to another currency but does nothing to show the actual value of products. Thus saying that one country gets the car for "cheaper" is not really true.

Here in Europe the toyota GT86 is costing 30000€ or more.
With current conversion rates tis would be about 39,523$.

SO you lucky Americans!
Why not buy an FR-S here in the states and import it to Europe? Especially a used one!!

2013 Scion FR-S Base - $19,987 w/29,400 miles

Because if i import a new car in to Belgium i have to pay 21% tax on it and the FRS is not EU certified so i can't even register it in Belgium .

So i revised my post, I was thinking a used example would be even cheaper. The 21% tax on a preowned example would only come out to about $4k. Arn't their firms on your side pond that handle the certification process for specialty cars? The only interesting difference I'm aware of between the FR-S and a Euro spec GT86 I'm aware of are the inclusion of HID's and a headlight washing system...
