You'll probably have some PTFB issues (manual boost controller I'm assuming?) and lots of fun losing traction mid corner when boost hits. It's just unavoidable in terbo cars, but at something like Summit Point you'd be hideously faster as you've gained a ton of speed on the straights that you can carry into the corners.

Yes It's manual, I don't have an EBC. I hit full boost around 3500 though, and I rarely drop below that many revs on the courses I've run with CDC at least.

I foresee my biggest issues being the shift point (CDC always puts it in a turn...) and slaloms where I have to modulate the throttle a lot. The turbo really doesn't kick in as jarringly as I thought it would.

Just need better throttle control is all. Holding steady throttle might not work, you might need to reduce throttle input as boost builds. Get the car to a happy place and find a way to maintain the power level such that the tires can handle given the amount of steering input.

You're likely correct. Honestly, no one with an FI car has come out to ANY events yet, CDC, AI, SCCA. I just want to ride along (or drive) so I can finalize my hypothesis on if FI is worth it for autocross at all, or just good for the street/track.

I've been to CDC once... on stock tires.

Karen Kraus has some luck in her winning WRX with FI

And by luck I mean championships, lol.

Pushing things further off the original topic but I'll just post a little here about autocross since the discussion occurred here.

I had no PTFB issues whatsoever, the throttle is entirely predictable. I did have the occasional issue with falling out of boost. This was mostly due to taking bad lines because I was understeering more since I'm just so damn fast now. I would come at a turn thinking I was going as fast as I would have been with the stock power, but actually I was going a hell of a lot faster and the tires just couldn't handle the turn in. For the record as long as I'm above 3000 RPMs there is absolutely no turbo lag.

Once I started to calm down and keep things in line I found I could keep on the throttle more than I thought I could, and started putting down very respectable times.

I ended the day with a 45.53 as my best (not one of my 6 that counted but whatever). I managed a 45.2 but murdered a cone in the last slalom. Any of the guys who went to CDC today can attest to these being pretty good times.

All in all I would say the AVO kit is entirely manageable for autocross conditions and delivers some extraordinary power on straighter sections. As with any FI car I have to be more careful with the throttle, but with some experience I have no doubt the added power will improve my times.

^^ I bet you were having a lot of sideways fun, I remember last CDC commenter when you were running where he was like I don't even know how you can get that turn sideways but you managed! hahaha

Hahaha yeah I remember someone telling me about that. I think I popped the clutch into second really hard mid-turn.

Not too much crazy sideways. Mostly under steer from not being used to the added speed.

I'm glad it is working out great, I figured the AVO kit would be a good fit. Its just enough without needing a ton of support mods. I'm looking forward to seeing your car in-person.

What mods do you have planned next?

PS: I should be at nearly every local autox in Sept.
