Not to go off topic... but..
I am curious, can a driver from another state that requires only a rear license plate get pulled over in a state like MD or VA that requires both front and rear license plates? That would be some BS if that's the case, especially since a state like DE gives 1 license plate. |

So I got pulled over this morning by my house.
I was going 45 in a 30 and then got lasered so I slowed down to 35 and passed the cop. The cop started to move so as soon as that happened Im like yeap thats for me, pulled immediately over waiting for the cop to come to me. He pulled up behind me and came out of the car and said how do you know I was going to pull you over? Im like I could tell haha. He is like well I pulled you over for going faster than the speed limit and no front plate (Law in MD) So he takes my license and reg and then comes back and was like where is your plate, showed it to him and said I was just racing this past weekend and had to switch back my camera mount to the license plate holder. He is like well I know your the stig and everything but this isn't the top gear test track so here is a warning and keep it slow on the high way. Im like OMG you watch top gear lets talk about top gear for 5 minutes and we continue to talk shake hands and I leave thinking that is the coolest cop ever LOL. It was so awesome I talked about top gear and got 2 warnings. Best morning so far haha.

You're pretty much boned on the tint. The VA law is something like 'no vehicle may operate on the roads of the commonwealth with a tint of XX' so there's no reciprocity there. Exhausts, brake lights, cats, etc all have similar language to this so it doesn't really matter what your state's law is if your driving in VA.
For the front plate it reads something like 'vehicles from other countries or states may operate on the roads provided they display the plates issued for that locality'. So yup, if they in fact know that your state requires a front plate you can be ticketed. If your state does not issue them you cannot. There's a 6 month time limit on this (unless you're active duty). Also if you're a VA resident but drive across the border to another state to buy/register your vehicle there if it's primarily parked/garaged in VA (though I don't know how they'd enforce that unless you're their neighbor or something). |

UPDATE
So... I was visiting my sister again in VA yesterday... and guess what haha Another state trooper pulled me over on 66. I already knew at the moment the police turned on the light. I pulled over and expected the same question. Well.. I told the officer that I was pulled over few weeks ago and I've already paid the fine. I thought he was going to give me another same bs processing fee fine again, but instead... he just told me why it's important to have legal tint even I'm from out of state. I guess I agree with his point that they he can't see what I'm doing in the car (Smoking/drinking/no seat belt, etc). Also he mentioned as long as I'm in the legal tint with MD (35%), they won't bother with me. With his meter checked again, my tint came out to 16%... He was a pretty young guy and finalized the conversation with my car. It was funny how some of police officer has interest in the car. He actually complimented on my car saying how sweet looking it is, rwd, light, etc. He let me go without even checking my license/registration. I guess I have to get my tint redone before I visit my sister again. |
