Pulled over for the first time.

So, I was pulled over for the first time in my FR-S. Really, the first time I've been pulled over in 11 years.

I was behind an unmarked black impala with heavy tint that was swerving in the left lane, doing 70 in a 60. I really didn't want to be behind him because of the way he was driving, so I moved to pass him in a center lane. While I was passing him I had noticed that it appeared as though he was on the phone.

I looked away for a split second to my GPS and when I looked up, he was pulling in behind me with his lights flashing.

I immediately pulled over to the shoulder, and he came up to my car to scream at me, saying I was the distracted one because I didn't notice that his plate said MP on it (apparently that stands for Municipal Police). He wasn't in uniform either(wearing a Gym sweater).

After yelling at me for about 30 seconds he told me to go. I pulled out into traffic, and he did to, observing the speed limit for about 3 miles, then randomly turned on his lights and took off down the road.

I'm guessing he was off duty and in an argument on the phone, and needed to yell at someone else. He pulled me over to fill his need, and couldn't issue a citation because he was off duty, and only guessing my speed.

You should've citizens arrested him for swerving while on the phone. That would hold up awesomely in court.

Why couldn't he write you a ticket if he was off duty?

He was a Municipal officer out of his jurisdiction. I'm guessing on his way to the cook county courthouse. I'm also guessing he didn't clock me either since he based me speeding on the fact that he admitted he was speeding, and I had passed him.

Also, would you respect an officer trying to hand you a ticket in sweats?

Oh man, a dashcam would have been perfect in this situation.

I came across an asshole cop over the weekend too. I was driving at night, and this cop started following me from a distance on the highway. I noticed he was trying to be sneaky, never getting directly behind me but matching me move-for-move. He also completely ignored the cars moving faster than me in the left lane.

After a couple of miles of cat and mouse on the highway, I got off at my exit. He of course followed me, probably not realizing I was keeping my eye on him. I put some distance between us whenever I was out of his direct line of sight (i.e., exit ramp), but would slow down whenever he had a clear view of my car.

After a couple more miles of this clandestine shit, he must have gotten frustrated that he wasn't seeing me breaking any driving laws, so he charged up hard behind me while I was in the left lane, switched on his highbeams, and started tailgating me (in a marked cop car) while I'm sitting there doing the speed limit since I knew his dumb ass was back there.

I wasn't about to let him get away with this, so I let off the gas to get him to back off and stop tailgating me. That must have pissed him off more because he suddenly floored it and passed me in the right lane (illegal in MD) and sped off well above the speed limit, blowing through a couple of yellow lights and swerving through traffic. Obviously not all cops are assholes, but some clearly are. I think driving a low-slung sports car will get their attention though (even if you're not speeding), so have to be aware of that.

I had an off-duty cop cut me off as I was driving down a main road, and then wave his badge out the window as if it was somehow shocking that I suddenly appeared right at his back bumper. I pulled over and he proceeded to yell at me for "flying" (I was doing the 40mph speed limit - in fact, there was a police car in front of me earlier that I was keeping pace with). Some cops don't deserve their badges or their driver's licenses, I swear.

Yesterday as I pulled out of my office I looked in my rear view and saw 6 Bike Cops. I must say even though I had no reason to worry it was quite nerve racking until I turned off a few miles down the road.
