MD driver, first time pulled over in VA

Over this weekend, I was pulled over by a state police for my tint. I do admit it is not a legal tint, 20%.

I didn't get any specific violation from the list on green paper, but I see the total fine for $62, which is just the one time processing fee. The police told me I can choose to appear at the court in November, but I don't see a point for this citation.

Should I just pay this $62 and be done with it? Any trace that will follow?

This was my first time in VA, so I'm not sure what's the right way to proceed.

They pull you over for having illegal tint in VA...on a car registered with plates from MD? wat?

pay the ticket...... piss in officers mail box.

It will cost more than $62 to go to the court and you'll probably still have to pay something if you go...

It's not like I was violating the traffic or caused anyone an accident. I was expecting a warning, but not a fine of just processing fee.

I figured going to court will cost me time, gas, court fee, etc.

ZionsWrath 08-12-2013 04:32 PM

Ya, that's why I'd just pay it. sucks tho

I got a illegal uturn in NJ for turning around on some desolate road to go to a fast food place. The cop was 2 blocks down the road at a red light. Must be real exciting town lol

I just paid it since not worth the time to go to court there and in NY the points don't transfer for moving violation out of state.

Wait, let me get this straight.

They don't care if you take the tint off or not? Or will the charge be dropped if you go to court and pay a smaller fee?

Police never mentioned about removing the tint. I doubt they can drop any fine since this $62 is listed as "Processing Fee". Rather, they're likely to charge me more for other bs fees (Assuming). I don't want to waste my time. Sh!t, I guess I'll have to roll down my windows when I'm on 66.

I'm still not getting over how they have juris-my****-tion on a car registered OUT OF STATE. Even if you are violating THAT state's (MD) laws, you're in another state where your car is not registered.

Well then what choice do you have? Pay, pay more or go to jail? I think the choice is obvious :bonk:.

Maybe if you talked to the officer like Kevin, he may have let you go thinking you were a little mentally deficient! :D

I know my choice, it's just absurd. haha

No direct instruction on removal of tint, since I'm of state, but they make me pay for..... having darker tint in other state...? hahaha wonderful world.

I reside in VA and I've been pulled over twice for not displaying front tags...both times I've had the cop check my tint and said it's illegal and below the 50% threshold. I told them that I got 50% legal tint. Their response was that the car comes with factory tint which is about 5-10%...and I tell them straight up that how is any buyer of car going to notice that when purchasing the car and putting tint on. Also, I tell them that the dark interior makes it looker darker than it is. I haven't been given a citation because of those two reasons but I can VA cops being pricks (not all obviously but they exist).

DC is like this too FYI

You can get pulled over and ticketed in DC for the following

Tint
Exhaust
No Front Plate

I know cause I have gotten tickets for all of the above in DC with my car registered in MD
