Most guys recommend using the factory filter, but with regards to oils you'll get all sorts of differing answers. Just use a reputable oil brand and change frequently. You should be fine.

subie oil/ subie filter. works great for typical use.

I think I pay something like $36 if I buy a filter, crush ring and 4 quart and around $50 when it's 6qts. that's based on fuzzy memory and conjecture, plus we get discounted parts at the local subie dealer for being part of the impreza club.

Thanks for posting this! 300V is definitely a race oil that you can easily run to 7,500 miles on an oil change interval with plenty of calcium (and a bit of magnesium) for detergency/dispersancy (are those words?) and you still have a good TBN (it starts at around 7.97).

Viscosity took very little hit as it starts around 8.0. And since you're not really burning any oil, your cats are probably fine with the slightly elevated phosphorus vs. the 800 ppm's in GF5 oils (if you have cats).

Any engine mods and what are the driving conditions? Is this the newest Ester Core 300V?

Glad you like it, I figured it would provide a more useful thread then fishing through a bunch of pages.

I updated the first post with my latest oil change and link to lordtakuban's 2nd. I ended up running my oil until 9600 miles because of a general lack of time to do an oil change. So 1 year, 5 oil changes, 36k miles and the stock stuff still works.

Wow, nice uoa! The Flashpoint probably took a little hit from fuel dilution, but uoa wear metals look good!

I was surprised it held up so well. Seems like for normal use with the occasional asshattery you can push the limit on the changes without issue. I haven't been paying close attention but is anyone autox'ing theirs and posting UOA? I'd like to see the difference.

Your silicon still seems high for the number of miles. Do you have an aftermarket intake?

Here's a Blackstone virgin oil analysis from last December, so I don't think it's an oil additive (unless the oil was reformulated):

I have about 3000 miles before I hit 7500 again, and I will send a sample to blackstone and the other company that does the UOA's.
I autox probably at least once a month and I run on E85 occasionally so it should be interesting to see what kind of results it shows.

Are you tuned for E85? I see varying results in UOA's in WRX's/STI's that run E85 and are tuned for it. I've seen a couple of good uoa's, but have probably seen more uoa's where the oil took a beating. Even with 3,000 mile intervals on Rotella T6 5W-40.

Yea, I have a map for e85. So far i've only run it for about 1.25 tanks.

The only engine mods that were in effect during the oil use was an AFE drop-in dryflow filter. This is my daily driver. I accelerate quickly ... a lot. Well, as quickly as this car can go anyway. I have not yet autocrossed it. But that's mainly due to lack of time.

I installed the TRD Intake a couple weeks after doing this recent oil change. All cats are still present. I meant to change the oil at 5K, but lost track of time and mileage and it slipped to 6K. But, based on the numbers, I could likely go longer.

I got the 300V a few months back from my distributor. And the price leads me to believe it's the newer formula. The cans look about the same though and I don't think I have any old cans from the previous oil to compare details.

Since I put about 8K miles/year on the car, it will be a while before I do another change. I'll be sure to post the results on this thread to keep a good running history.
