How does EcuTek/BRZEdit handle the closed to open loop transition? What are the options as far as changing it?

The thing I am most disgusted with in all the various logs i have seen (i have seen logs from many FI tunes from many tuners at this point, this is not directed at this car alone) is the fuel trims... it's so easy to fix yet instead they just turn off the DTC for maxed out fuel trims... I have actually seen combined idle fuel trims of 50 to 70 percent... there is just no excuse for that.

i'm having mine tuned locally (not e-tuned) and even that is turning into a long process. tuning is a bitch, which is why i think every person who owns one of these cars (FI) should know, or be willing and able to learn, how to tune it themselves. i've found that we do ourselves a great disservice by not fully understanding the very most important part of the setup. there is far too much reliance on (often sketchy) outside help to make these things run right.

unfortunately it doesn't matter how forthcoming the tuner is or how much they're willing to divulge about the work your paying them to do. you have no way of doing anything about it anyway with ecutek. they've got you by the balls. |

My personal opinion is that tuning these engines are not that difficult using EcuTek (have not used any other software yet). With that said it can be very time consuming, there are a lot of maps that need to be touched in one way or another. As well there are a lot of different ways to skin the cat so to say, each tuner will have there own way. The only codes I have ever turned turn off are secondary O2 sensor, start up timing, catalytic converter, and the evap ones as the system inputs and out puts are used for something else now. I will also agree with Mad_sb fuel trims need to be adjusted properly as over time those can throw a tune way out of whack (from what I have seen from many other types of vehicles). I can say with out a doubt I will for no reason get involved with email tuning these things and only do cars I can put my hands on. There are way to many variables for me to feel comfortable with the email stuff. With that being said there are plenty of people who appear to be very happy with there email tunes and are having great results, so there are some tuners that are comfortable doing it and they are doing it well from what it seems, I have looked over no other tuners logs as I am not interested. Just my 2 cents on the topic.

If I had to do everything over, I would've just shipped the stock car to Minnesota for FullBlown to install and dyno tune. I'm still stuck with a car that I only drive for short distances to log a new map, then park it till I hear back. I can't imagine how people deal with this when it's their only car.
