You know how there is a sound tube that runs inside of the cabin? Inside of that tube is a piece that basically shapes the air rushing through it and creates the sound you hear. The sound changer replaces the piece inside of the tube and offers you 3 alternatives
Mute Louder Loudest

Don't waste your money on the sound charger, they simply have different thickness of foam in the different colors for noise levels.
Red tube has no foam, so if you want a louder sound in your car simply remove your OEM charger (Grey) and pull the foam out. Gives a better sound in the cabin. The TRD DIF is extremely expensive with no real gains. Afe momentum pro dry - great filter Works oiled filter - good k&N - good Zeta stage 2 - great I've dyno tested the above all give 4 to 6 whp gains. |

I went with things on the intake side that has been dyno'd to show at least some gain without adversly affecting what it would have been if the stock part was in their place. Both Perrin Drop-in and intake duct have been pretty much direct fit, less hesitation, idle dip is less apparent, and the annoying intake sound is now gone and my car lost about 1.2lbs off the front. Before shipping and taxes, it came out to under $180. Pretty good for getting rid of some idling issues while improving pretty much over the whole rev-range, if you ask me.
TRD sound changer to me was a joke, really. 0 performance gain, you can have the same effect of all 3 changes with a little know-how (gut your stock tube for the red one from the DIY on this forum, or just plug the sound hole for the effects of the blue one, green one is somewhere in between). Like someone already said in this thread, don't do it. |

I really did feel that I gained power by installing this filter. That said, I also installed a Perrin Inlet Tube at the same time, and the stock filter was quite dirty. The first photo shows the stock filter in white complete with captured insect. The second shows the Cosworth filter and Perrin Inlet Tube ready to be installed. The dates are off because I took out the air filter and inlet tube when I installed a Perrin Lightweight Crank Pulley, when I took the second photo. The Cosworth filter with the Perrin Inlet Tube seemed to increase power even before installing the Perrin Lightweight Crank Pulley.
