Which Drop-in filter fits the best?

There are so many threads on drop in filters. There are even threads that show how to dis-assemble the airbox for install. Overall, which filter fits the easiest and the best without having to cut/force it in the airbox?

The only one I have tried is the Perrin. And yes, it had to be forced into the airbox. Other than that it's a great filter.

Any are fine. I can't see how would could actually feel the difference between drop in filters...I have a $350 intake that I can't fell any difference over stock to be honest.

Last week, I installed the K&N drop-in filter for the first time. Considering that I didn't have previous experience, I'd say it fit really well. You definitely just have to read online instructions and make sure it aligns correctly

Arguably the TRD filter has the best fitment since it uses the same format of gasket/seal as the stock paper filter - the hard layered indented areas that line up exactly with the airbox's plastic. (Versus silicone gaskets that don't have an exact of fit)

Get a trd for a matrix 05, fits perfect, and built like a kn or afe, its not a paper filter

uhh, wait -- so you have to oil up a TRD filter as well ?

ive seen some issue with the oil getting on some sensors - I was hoping just to use a paper drop-in if possible --- I thought the TRD was like that...

am I wrong ? thanks guys.

I never oiled it

K&N took 1 minute to fit. jesus drop in filters are NOT a scary idea and take little effort to install.

Yes, oiling is not a problem.

The JDM TRD filter (as in the picture above) is built like the stock filter and doesn't require oil. The TRD filter that we get over here is an oiled cotton gauze filter much like a K&N. The filter comes pre-oiled and will not need oil until it is cleaned. The sensor problem you speak of happens when the filter is over oiled and installed (more or less) dripping wet. This can cause the MAF sensor to become fouled. Even if this did happen, the fix is easy...simply remove the sensor, spray with electric contact cleaner, dry, and re-install. Good to go.
