So I tested it out today... dam it warns me way too early like 1.5 intersection away too early.

The only option is either when approaching or when speeding. I'm going to change it to when speeding and test it again tmr.

As in 1.5 intersections before the intersection with the camera? That doesn't seem too bad.

Yea it'll go "speed camera up ahead" and then starts to beep slowly like a radar detector. I would like it more if it only warns when just approaching the correct intersection, and not starting to warn when approaching the set of lights before it.

I wonder if there is a distance setting for this.

This explains a lot. We have a 2013 Outback, and 2014 BRZ. I have explored the Navigation menus of both and thought I set up alerts for traffic cameras etc., but it never provided any alerts.

Database. Duh, makes sense.

BTW, can I use the file for both cars or do I need to purchase one for each car?

Also, if I remember correctly, you can adjust the distance to notification within the Navigation menu.

Hmm, I might do this after school, work, and play today.

You do need the nav screen up for the alerts, right?

You can use the same database file for both units as it's basically just a text file with a bunch of coordinates.

I tried adjusting the distance for general warnings down to 50m but it made no difference.

I hope it doesn't freak my mechanic out when he test drives my car tomorrow lol!

Would this void the warranty if Subaru found out? Or is that not really possible?

It can't void the warranty. Subaru could refuse to warranty the head unit if they could show that your installation of the database caused something to fail. That's extremely unlikely, especially considering that the head unit is made for this functionality. Even if I somehow bricked the HU while installing this (also unlikely), I would still expect them to honor the warranty on it because the HU is made to accept such a database.

Not to mention of the unit is truly bricked, they aren't going to know what caused said bricking....

In the end though the database is updateable through a function/feature of the device. If that feature fails, then the device should be covered I would think.

edit: i havnt actually road tested yet, still at work but will see what happens when i pass them on the way home. if it fixes i will post but please let me know if anyone has had any issues with this

look up your city and see if it's on the map. if it's not on the map, then they haven't updated it. I'm pretty sure you can manually add it in if you have the coordinates via the .txt file.

wow lol my city is on there but there are no camera's on the map so i guess they havnt updated it yet?

a little disappointed now, granted its only 12$ but i wanted the features to work around my own town and surrounding areas.

check the database file you downloaded and see if you can insert the coordinates of the speed cameras for your city, if you know them (or go to google maps and see if you can get coordinates that way).
