First attached pic below is on the dealer lot in the shade when I purchased on 7/28/2012 and the rest were taken on my second day of ownership after a wash, a coat of Meguiars Gold Class wax, swapped stock antenna for a shorty that I saved from my trade-in, all 4 amber bulbs swapped for chrome bulbs, and DC EX-1012 exhaust tips swapped for the puny stock oval tips.

Congrats!

Congrats man! You knocked out the things I want to do immediately upon delivery as well, chrome bulbs and shorty. I like your style. Is the driving experience everything you hoped it would be?

Yes! The power is right as expected, torque dip is noticeable but very manageable. Low rpm power is way better than expected and even cruising in 6th the car responds quickly to the gas pedal. Havent revved past 5k rpms so I really don't know the power that well yet. Having bought this car sight unseen, much less never having seen a single BRZ/FRS in person aside from the ATL Auto Show, all I had to go on were the video reviews and editorials that keep rolling in. Once I drove it, I understood why Top Gear Mag picked it as overall winner for their recent speed week issue against 21 other much faster, more expensive cars. It's truly a fantastic driver's car in every way. Reminds me of my first 944S in the seating position, steering feel, shifter and interior layout, and power delivery. I love it! 105 miles on the odometer so far!

BR33Z3 07-30-2012 10:28 AM

Congrats, the car looks great!

De-badged. 5 minute job with hair dryer, credit card, and some careful pulling straight away from paint and zero residue left behind. Just a quick spray with detailer and wiped with microfiber and done!

Wow! Looks great. I'm waiting for Troncalli to either be granted a supplemental allocation or maybe pre-order a '14.

2pt5RS 07-31-2012 09:15 PM

those exhaust tips look great! I'm still on the fence on doing that or just waiting and picking up a nameless exhaust.

I know ARK performance is sending my buddy one of their prototype systems for their shop car...if it ever arrives. We'll see how it compares to the nameless or perrin.

I'll be watching the upcoming nameless axleback group buy and if the price is right, I may bite early. Otherwise at $40 for a pair of these DC tips, why not? http://amzn.com/B003D4MA30

Where did you get the chrome bulbs for the tail-lights. And were they hard to install? Thanks!

rocketballoon 07-31-2012 11:39 PM

Congrats! The CBS color looks great. How do you like the exhaust tips? How do they sound?

Took 5 minutes to install all 4. Fronts come out straight from the headlight assembly with the hood up, the rears you just have to pop the rivets out of the trunk liner and pull it back to get access to the tail light housings and then pull the bulbs out and swap them.

The tips took me all of 10 minutes to install and adjust to perfection. They look great IMO but the sound hasn't changed at all (at least from my perspective in the driver's seat) as they are just tips and they are after the muffler.

Got her tinted today. I removed the top of the third brake light myself (how to DIY) when I got to the tint shop and they had their own tool to hold the window buttons down while tinting. I went with 20% all around and a strip on the windshield. This car is too damn shiny, lol! I have to wait until nearly sundown to get decent pictures of it outdoors!

was385 08-03-2012 01:56 PM

Is there any color that doesn't look great on the FRS/BRZ?

ATL BRZ 08-03-2012 02:20 PM

EDIT: Got it done the right way

So I just got my package from Amazon containing a hardwire kit (http://amzn.com/B0003NN83U) to power my Escort Passport 8500 radar/laser detector.....

Bg8780 08-03-2012 02:43 PM

Very nice for using the stock cable. I just wish I was good with electionics. I want to run the mute button on top of my steeing column and have a flat wire under the windshield and down the passenger side pillar.

Yeah the mute button would be nice to have easy access to, but I think Escorts will mute if you hit one of the top buttons on the detector itself, won't they? Now I'm second guessing. I usually don't keep mine turned up all the way, maybe 3/4 if I'm listening to music, and the 8500 quiets itself down to 1/4 volume after a few seconds of continuous alert.

ATL BRZ 08-03-2012 07:04 PM

Officially a week old in my ownership, 175 miles on the clock, and just a tick under 1/2 tank of the original dealer fill-up. She chirps like a cricket loudly when warm at idle presumably due to the ethanol in the gas around here and/or the harmless issues with the DI fuel pump, but hopefully a TSB will be out soon and revised parts will be available to kill the chirp.

Still loving every moment behind the wheel. I love people's reactions to the car. I saw a guy in an Outback today pass me slowly in the opposite direction in a parking lot with his eyes glued to the car and a smile on his face. I slowed down, gave him a wave and smiled back. :D

Bg8780 08-03-2012 07:04 PM

Yes, there is a mute button up top. The left one I believe. I have my mounted higher (next to the rearview mirror) so it's harder to hit the mute button.

It's under the hood in the engine bay, which is probably why you never found it.

ATL BRZ 08-03-2012 11:16 PM

I havent spent much time under the hood yet, but I will be soon. So far I have an Apexi drop in filter, plugs for noise gen and both intake resonators, and Perrin light crank pulley waiting to be installed. I want to get some more miles in first.

Turbowned 08-04-2012 12:09 AM

I wonder if there's a more elegant way to route that wire behind the dash rather than in front?

I looked up under the passenger footwell with a headlamp on and didnt see anything obvious, but I could have easily still missed something.

My Flossy Grip Tape Shorty Heavyweight shift knob with custom engraving arrived today! They gave me a very nice discount for participating in the latest group buy.

This thing is hefty at 500 grams! I love how it shifts with this extra weight on top! It's definitely smoothed out the notchy throws with the stock knob and significantly reduced shifting effort. I'm happy with it! I may get some red paint and fill in the engraving for a little more contrast...

Am I the only one that didn't know about this? I am returning the hardwire kit and getting my money back, as my pics below show how I've installed my RD to my liking! It's not as clean as a hardwire kit that's fished up under the headliner and down the pillars to the fuse panel, but I can still easily unplug and dismount and store it whenever! Glove box closes normally with the way I routed the cord and without bulging out or catching on the cord. Plenty of slack too!

you should check out how i installed mine.

Thanks for the video, that's really helpful! My stock power cord is too bulky and short with the curls, so I know what I need now; just ordered this: http://amzn.com/B006G1PHLY

The direct wire kit wouldn't have worked anyways since the fuse box is in the engine bay.... :bonk:

Looking forward to getting mine installed the right way!!! Thanks again!

ya. you just need to mount the detector at the top of the windshield to hide the cord.

YES! Thank you for finding that part! That's exactly what I was looking for! I just talked to my buddy back home. He's been my install guy for years, definitely the best in the area. He's going to hardwire the detector for me and put a mute button on the steering column. Probably pretty easy, I'm just not comfortable with car electronics and I'd cry if I ruined something in my new baby lol

Off topic but if anyone in Northern Ohio ever needs any work done ( stero installs, alarms, etc) let me know. My friend is very talented.

Thanks again for finding that part ATL BRZ.

Make sure you get a shorty so it fits correctly with our reverse gear selector.
