via Popular Mechanics: Subaru already previewed their BRZ in Japan and along Southern France’s Route Napoleon, but after setting the automotive lap record at last year’s Isle of Man TT with a WRX STi (the first time a car had run the course in over 20 years), Subaru cheekily announced yet another BRZ launch, saying they “lied, begged and pleaded long enough with the organizers” to allow journalists to be the first non-racers to drive the storied road course at speed for the first time.

The experience was surreal. Shooting through the in-town section, the BRZ hit speeds of up to 120 mph– which, due to the narrow roads and nearby stone walls and trees, felt twice as fast.

Read on INSIDE about the experience and watch some great videos of the Isle of Man launch, featuring some AIRBORN BRZs!

Here’s one of the most important document resources that can be had for the BRZ (and FR-S) – the 2012 BRZ Service (Shop) Manual. 172 pages of technical info.

This is just the first part – General Info. The more detailed parts (i.e. Engine and Transmission) to come later. Click through for the manual (PDF format).

Got a case of the Mondays? THIS should help cure it. If it doesn’t make you laugh it will at least be so strange as to snap you out of your doldrums.

Several months ago, the Japanese site Joy Car published a curious gallery of images featuring a young Japanese woman in what appears to be a lab coat while she ‘examined’ the Toyota 86. A site member has taken the time to translate the accompanying article to see what exactly this was all about. The result is both funny and rather bizarre. Those kooky Japanese (but they build a damn fine car)!

The aftermarket for the FR-S / BRZ has developed faster than we could have predicted, owing to the fact that the cars were already made available to tuners months ago for parts development, but also because of the enthusiast nature of this car.

To help keep up with the already existing FR-S and BRZ exhaust systems available now (and the future), here is an exhaust video compilation thread and archive for you to reference and to keep up with. We encourage you to add any clips you come across which have not yet been posted!

In case you don’t already have these, these are some very useful quick reference and warranty/maintenance guides for the FR-S owner. Full PDF downloads inside.

Site moderator WingsofWar brings us information on some minor and major mechanical changes for the 2014 Subaru BRZ, particularly to the FA201.

Some have been concerned about the mid range dip found on the BRZ’s torqeband, spawning many different theories with no real conclusive explanation. Intake acoustics have been found to have the greatest effect on this. Subaru’s solution for next year is to adopt TGV (tumble generator valve federated) into next years model lineup.

Other changes may include watercooled EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) with a collector, Hitachi DI injection drivers ECU and Hitachi injectors with a dual spray pattern.
