Realistic cost of engine build for reliable 400whp
So I'm planning on getting my engine upgraded (don't wanna say rebuilt because it's not broken).
Is pistons, rods, and bearings realistically all I need for 400whp reliably? If so, how much would it cost in labor and parts to get this done? |

Im going to assume you're talking about the FA20, so the build itself could vary a lot in cost. Mainly because you could upgrade so many things: "Rods, Pistons, Headstuds, Mainstuds, Headgasket, Bearings, Springs & Retainers, build the heads, etc". Fullblown offers built short blocks starting at $3095.00 with your core as an example, and have built heads starting at $2795.00.
http://fullblownmotorsports.com/full...ort-block-1487 Since you're going for the 400whp range, you're going to need a upgraded clutch just to start off with the transmission. So you're looking at $5890~7000 range in parts not including the labor to put the motor back together after you receive your built block if you buy it from full blown motorsports. These are just estimates if you go with fullblown, the prices will vary depending on the brand you end up going with but it should be north of $5000~ to achieve those HP numbers that you want. Those are just my 2¢, hope this just gives you an example of pricing estimates.
