Help with DIY transmission flush.

I am planning on doing a transmission flush on my automatic 2005 Scion. I know you are supposed to simply drain and fill but I want to get all the fluid without draining/ filing 3 or 4 times.

There is a technique where you pull the transmission return line from the radiator (do scions have this?) and turn the engine on. The old fluid is expelled through the now disconnected return line. At the same time you or a helper pour new fluid into the transmission through the dip-stick hose so that the tranny never goes dry. When the expelled fluid looks like the new fluid you are essentially done.

Question 1: Does the car need to be in drive, if not how do you get all the fluid from the torque converter out?

Question 2: Instead of pouring new fluid though the dip stick hose can I extend the transmission pick up line into a large bucket full of new transmission fluid? Is there enough suction (if any at all) on the pick up line for this to work, or must I pour it through the dip stick hose?

Thanks for the help. :happy0180:
